Should I get an EcoBoost F150?

I've been doing research and am in the market for an F150. We know the specs we want: red or black exterior, black leather, moonroof, heated seats, nav, back up camera etc, but want to know more about the EcoBoost.

We are looking for a truck for trips to the hardware store, picking up loads of dirt/gravel, pulling a small trailer with jet skis. We don't need anything huge for towing heavy loads. Would you recommend an EcoBoost engine for us? I have been reading up and am hoping to get some advice from people who have these trucks.

Thanks in advance!

The good news for you is that any of the engines will have adequate power for your needs, so you have lots of good choices.

If you love that V8 sound, just get the 5.0 and you'll be happy.

Best advice is to drive both and just buy what you like. I did that, loved the EcoBoost, and I'm still very happy with my choice.

OP...about how many miles do you think you'll be driving per year?? You looking New 2014, New 2015, or Used??

IMHO...go with the EcoBoost!! They really are GREAT engines overall.

Good luck...

Thanks for the reply! I've test driven a 2012 EcoBoost and loved it. I'm not one to be concerned about having a beefy sounding truck. I'm thinking the V6 is going to be the way to go for me.

We usually drive about 15k miles/year.

I am actually looking at some new 2013's. These three trucks have only been test driven. I know, but here are some links (you can view the window stickers). Any advice on which truck to get?

2013 FX4 with 110 miles:
New 2013 Ford F-150 FX4

2013 Lariat with 611 miles:
New 2013 Ford F-150 Lariat

2013 Lariat with 200 miles:
New 2013 Ford F-150 Lariat in Seattle 1FTFW1ET2DFD11627

3rd link did not work. So...going off the 1st and 2nd.

The lariat 2nd link...is pretty nice!! Just have to be aware of the 3.31 gears on that truck. Will you be doing a lot of heavy towing?? If yes, then you'd want to pass. It will get you the best mileage at highway speeds.

the 1st is nice too. It has the 3.73 gears. Better for towing heavy.

Good luck!!

I have the 3.31 gears, and I don't think it's that big of a deal when towing. I guess my trailer is pretty light, but at highway speeds, I don't find the truck hunting between 6th and 5th like I my old 5.4L with 3.73's used to between 4th and 3rd.
The low-down grunt of these trucks means they hold gears pretty well on the highway, and that excellent transmission means if they do need to drop down a gear, it's no fuss.

Thanks for the comments! The last link didn't work because the truck sold. I ended up getting the Lariat in the 2nd link today!! We drove it home (3.5 hours) and I am in love. We don't plan on doing too much towing (just jet skis), so the 3.31 is perfect for us.

I will post some pictures soon, it's been a long day!

Lariat is a great trim level. Many days I wish I had some of those creature comforts.
Don't fear the 3.31 gears either. You'll be fine for occasional towing.

I almost didn't buy a 2012 FX4 in June because it had a V6. I have slowly come to love the engine. I am pretty sure you will like it.

With the ecoboost the 3.31's are a non issue for towing below 9K. Check the door plate and look for the GCWR, gross combined weight rating, subtract the weight of the truck and you have your towing limit.

For instance, the GCWR of my truck is about 14,800 lbs. My truck weighs about 5600. The Lariat Screw will be a tad heavier.

You're gonna love this truck. Congrats and welcome!!!
