1964 F-250 Drum Brake Booster??

Is there an option for increasing the braking power on a '64 F-250? I just bought mine off my roommate who moved to the East Coast and have already had the gear ratio changed from 410 to 355. I have a 20' travel trailer that I need to pull with this truck and I need to be able to stop the thing. Right now I would say an 'emergency' stop is out of the question. I have to downshift and then brake otherwise I lock up and skid.

Looking for any information to make this great truck even better by being able to stop, especially while towing.

Thanks guys...

Braking your '64

Hi, I drive a 65 F-100. It is 2wd. Drums all the way. I used to live in Ga. I had the manual little single bore master cyl. That was ok there. It was mostly flat there. Now in the mountains of N.C., I had a booster and dual bore mast.cyl. put on my truck. It stops much better. I also used to have my Miller engine welder on the back. The welder was bolted to a 1/2" plate, approx. 72"x68". the welder & plate weighed in @ 1,500 #. I had no problem stopping with all that extra weight. I didn't want the disc breaks affair. Maybe the booster and dual holed mast. cyl. will work for you too. As I recall the booster and mc was out of a '79 F-100, everything bolted right up. You will need a donor truck to get a proportioning valve. This valve is a gotta have. It sends brake fluid to the front wheels & to the back wheels. thus it has two brake lines. One that goes up to the mast cyl. for the front wheels & the other brake line that goes up is for the back wheels. Contact me if you want, and we can discuss this. Cheers, Pete

1964 F100/250's were not available with power brakes.

1963/66 F350's were available with power brakes, but its P/B booster is almost as hard to find as Amelia Earhart & Jimmy Hoffa.

1965/66 F100/250 2WD use a different cab, brake/clutch pedal and etc related parts than 1961/64 F100/250, 1961/66 F350.

Ask Dave (garbz2) what power brake booster will work on a 1961/64 F100/250.

A dual system is a good idea, just make sure your front and rear pressures are for drum brakes.

As for the trailer, does it have brakes? Working correctly?

I believe you can get a bolt on power booster and dual master setup for around $350. This will make a huge difference. Hopefully your trailer has electric brakes, and you'd want to install an electric brake controller also. That's what I did on my '63 Unibody and it pulls my 24' trailer.

1964 F 250's could have been special ordered with a hydrovac brake booster when new.

So my '64 F350 with Power Brakes is rare? Not too many out there?

Probably weren't rare originally due to the scarcity of available parts today.

In the past week, two members were looking for a '63/66 F350 booster. None are available NOS, but I found 2 of the booster overhaul kits (C3TZ-2309-H) at two sources.

One member bought 1 of the kits, the other kit still available.

Once I get the truck running, I will be able to see if the booster is good or not, should I get an overhaul kit for it anyways? and what source did you find it from?

The obsolete parts vendors are rather lax in updating their inventory on obsolete search websites and the member that bought one of the kits didn't say who he bought it from.

Sooo, one of the following sources has 1, but who that is, I dunno.

C3TZ-2309-H .. Booster Overhaul Kit / Obsolete

KAMA OBSOLETE PARTS in East Bethel MN = 763-434-0123.

MILLER OBSOLETE PARTS in Binghamton NY = 607-722-5371.

Tripleframe says F 250's were available with power brakes, looks like another classic showdown. I got my popcorn ready

Since they're no 1964 F100 or F250 P/B booster listed below, the only way one could possibly be ordered is if a DSO.

F-250 power booster

Hi, I went to the local parts house ( O'Reilly's) here in Asheville N.C. The booster came out of a '79 F-100 1/2 ton. I don't have the part # any more. Cheers, Pete

Curiously shopping eBay last night, you can get a new dual master cylinder power booster with a mounted proportioning valve from about $250 to $350 depending if you want chrome or not. I don't know how the quality is, or if anyone has any experience with these. When you consider that you'll probably have to rebuild anything from an older vehicle (including vacuum diaphragm) and hone or sleeve the cylinder, this price seems pretty o.k. Input?
