At times I get all wrapped up in this oil thing where I need an exact type, correct brand and viscosity, etc, etc. Then I look back at all the cars, boats, lawnmowers, chainsaws…I’ve owned and none ever have oil related failures. It seems most all failures are external engine issues like alternators, water pumps, batteries, belts, starters, computers and so on. I change oil at 10k miles and use synthetic with something close to recommended viscosity.

I think with modern day synthetics and filters with better engineered engines the internals do just fine without all the fuss.

As of yesterday, this thread is 9 years old. I appreciate the use of the search function, but I am not sure it is worth revisiting.
