Is my oil pressure guage bad
So i finally get my bronco running but the oil pressure gauge is acting strange. With the key off the it will got past the high mark. Same with key on but not running. With it running it will be on a little bit under high maybe a inch but still further than it should be. And now when i rev it up it will shoot past the high mark again. I dont want to ruin it. This has been sitting for almost 6 yrs. and it smokes pretty bad i dont know if thats engine damage or just cleaning all the crap out of the motor and exaust from sitting. And also would an alternator go bad from sitting. Either something is shorting out or the battery is not charging. Its a 88 bronco with 302 5spd. It seems to have lots of power and pretty good throttle response from sitting. Also i did the clutch and replaced the rear main seal and when i crawl under it it looks like its dripping pretty bad from that seal i just replaced. And one more question when i start to let out the clutch to take off in gear it seems to make like an air gushing sound. Is it still just bleeding the system and will it go away. The pedal is still a little spongy but goes in an out of gears pretty nice.

I don't know the whole route, but I would start at the oil pressure sender located just forward of the oil filter and work back through the harness from there. Before tearing into things too far, maybe simply unplug the wire from the sender to make sure the sender isn't shorted internally.
