2004 6.0 F250 Shaking at 45-55 Speed

I have an 04 6.0 F250. I am having a shaking between 1500 and 2500 RPM around 45 - 55 MPH. I have no guesses what is calling this, but the truck runs fine otherwise. I would appreciate any advice.

One thing from experience, check the codes on the engine and see if you have a weak injector. I have 1 that's bad and at lower rpm's, especially between 45 and 55 it shakes the truck pretty good.

My friend and I both have 04 6.0s that do almost a hopping around that speed. It's just the nature of the beast. Not sure if yours is the same type of thing, but mine was also intensified by an out of balance wheel.

As long as we had 'em. Of course, I've only had mine a couple months, but i would imagine it did it before that. It read of guys with '11s doing the same thing, and 3 years later still no issues. I can't remember the details. but I think it's something to do with the solid axle with the large frame or something rather.
It's really only at 39 mph, though, so I go up to 40 mph to get rid of it. If yours does it in the whole 45-55 range, i would be more apt to think it's something else.

I Am having the same issue, Although, Mine isnt Anything to do with an Axle. I Believe My Issue, And the OP's Issue is more to do with an Injector. He was stating RPM's Of when the problem presents itself, and mine does the same thing. Only My Issue, The " Hopping" Is Hard As Hell When it hits OD(top Gear) And im Going 55 or so. Hit the pedal, it goes away, Downshift, and go above 2000 Rpm's It Goes away as well.

From what ive been hearing It has something to do with an Injector. Assuming its a weak injector it will act a little like a "misfire" or timing issue. Givin we dont have Spark plugs to even gave a "misfire" we still have Pistons and Powerstrokes of a piston that can be related.

Anyways, What you want to do it, take it to a shop, Or a friend If You know Someone with the ScanTool, The Good One, You Need to do a Buzz Test on the Injectors. The scan tool will look in and monitor the behavior of all the injectors at one time, and when the problem is presented you will see clear as day what injector is acting diffrently then the others. I Still have to take my truck in to the shop as well, if i do this before you i will post back here with the Cause of this Symptom.

Since I have chased this issue and found for myself the cure it was a bad injector seal.

At first it was showing the number 7 so I pulled all the right side, polished the spools and reinstalled them swapping number 7 with number 1 since it's easier to get to. The problem moved with the injector and was noted at lower HPOP pressure. Once the engine got to somewhere near the 2,000 rpm mark and the resulting higher (much higher) HPOP pressure it would run perfectly. After some reading and understanding the whole fuel system I decided the problem was a bad o-ring in the top of the injector.

I came to this conclusion a number of ways,
Number 1, the problem moved with the injector so that ruled out wiring or a bad o-ring on the oil rail itself.
Number 2, when I first started the engine after polishing all the spool valves it was smooth as silk so at that point I knew it wasn't chronic stiction.
Number 3, when assembling everything I use Lucas Assembly lube which is thicker and stickier that engine oil alone so as such probably provided a seal on the first run till the engine oil and heat finally displaced it.

So a couple days ago I pulled the valve cover, oil rail and replaced the o-ring seal in the top of the injector and there was some visible deformity to the old one like it make have been assembled dry at one time and cut the seal a little bit. End result, no more code and no more 55 mph Overdrive stuttering.

Thanks all for all of the info. catalinaflyer I will look into an o-ring. Was this an easy fix or did you have any challenges?

That will give you the information you need. Not an "easy" fix but once you get to the offending injector it's a fairly simple job. I'm doing the other 7 as well as the rails this weekend.
