1977 F-100

I've got a 1977 F-100 with a 400m V-8. I was replacing the heater hoses and the return hose that connects into the top of the block(I think) just fell off and the metal connector(?) was still in the hose. Now it just looks like I have a hole in the top of my engine block. Is this easily fixable? I can't really find any info on line. Thanks!

Im assuming it's threaded, but I'm not sure how to get the old rusted piece out.

Any plumbing supply shop, Home Depot or Lowes will have an easy out for pipe.

You're going to have to get a slim long chisel and wedge it between the broken off piece and the intake..
After you get enough pulled away from the wall you can work it out with a good pair of needle nose vice grips

I assume it's threaded, will that not damage the threads?

Take the white diagram I drew as the broken off piece. Create the rolled up part with a small diameter chisel and it'll come out..Twist it like an old school spam top with needle nose

When you tap the chisel in, angle it towards the broken flange away from the threads.. The threads will be fine as long as the tip of the chisle is sharp and not blunt but I honestly don't remember that being threaded.. (Been wrong before)

I am walking to my 400 now and ill see if I see any threads

**Edit. They are threaded but I am confident that it would not harm the threads..

I had something similar happen on my 2001 F150. While chiseling out the part some metal pieces dropped down into the engine. I took my shop vac to suck them out but couldn't get all the way in. Inserted a straw into the hose and sealed w duct tape. That worked.

The brass that fitting is made from is waaaay softer than the iron those threads are. Use come care and common sense, but I don't see any reason that wouldn't work for you.
