Im looking at buying 4 tires 35x12.50x16 im interested in super swamper tsl/thornbirds. Do any of you run these tires? How well do they work on pavement, snow and mud? Do they last long on pavement. They are going on my daily driver. Price is 1200$ do you recommend a different tire for on road and off road use? If yes what tire and why? Also price for 4 tires.

 

I don't have any experience with the thorn birds, but I did have some SSRs and really liked them. They were pretty good on the street and good off-road. They were radials. I believe the thorn birds are bias

 

What tires last longer on the road and handle good bias or radial?

 

I am a big swamper fan but the last to sets i bought are BFG KM2s. So far, really quiet and a smooth ride. In the past i ran a lot of BFG all terrain and they wear excellent.

I have not had either set of KM2s off road others have commented they are decent.

 

I had a set of Thornbirds. They were almost a good all terrain and almost a good mud tire. Almost rode as good as a half worn out ground hawg. I was not impressed by them. Now mind you this was several years back but they still look the same today.

 

Whats the price on 4 bfg 35x12.50x16? Right nnw my truck has 33x12.50 micky thompsons that look like a nascar tire they are so warn. You cant even see treads on the tires.

 

Fellow you are on the internet. Do a search and you will find hundreds of prices on tires. Any brand. Any type. Any size. Quit being lazy and find out for yourself.

 

Thornbirds are POS, if you get them have good tow points for your friends to hook to, to pull you out.

For DD that is over 50% or more pavement time get some AT's, you will get more mileage out of them. And a radial tires ride and wear a ton better than bias any day.

BFG AT, Bridgestone, Hankook, Cooper.

Pro Comp's AT's, POS x2, they wear as bad as Thornbirds.

 

I have bfg a/t's on my truck already and they only lasted about 10,000 miles. They look like nascar tires they are so bald. I cant seem to find any radial tires that are 16's only 16.5's. Ive heard good about hankook but again ive only seen 16.5's.

 

Sorry im so dumb I just went and looked at my tires again and they are 16.5's. So I will keep looking Into tires that are 35x12.50x16.5 or even 13.50. Being these are going on a 78 f250 std cab longbox should I aim for a specific load rating tire? I dont tow but I do stock truck pulls.

Bfg t/a ko come to 850$ with shipping. Alot cheaper than super swampers. On a scale of 1 to 10 how do you guys rate these bfg t/a ko 35x12.50x16.5?

 

I get along with my 35x12.50x16.5 BFG AT's on ol blue just fine. I ran some Hankook RF10's on my 2500 Dodge and you know how their front ends are (junk) and still got a ton of miles out of them.

Am running Hankook Dynapro ATM on it now, they are wearing great, 5000 mile rotation is the key.

I drove my 92 4x4 F150 like I was in NASCAR training and I could not wear out the Bridgestone Dueler AT's I had on it.

Cooper also makes a good tire IMO, I say tire shop for your DD 50% or more condition based. Mudders on a DD that is a pavement queen is not a smart call IMO, but looks good in the mall parking lot. lol

But I see it every day, its as smart as 20's with Nitto's Mud Grappler Extreme Terrain or Trail Grappler MT's on a SD that never get it hubs locked in.....

Radial 16.5's look at military takeoffs. 100Dollarman - Tires!

36's are bias, go with the gen 2 37's, or the gen 3 BFG Baja TA's both radial tires.

 

The bgf t/a ko are radials right? I have a set of the nitto mud grapplers on my other truck but that doesnt see pavement. But man do those tires hook good in the truck pulls.

 

Yes as far as I know, I can see the Nitto as a great truck pulling track tire.

 

Last 4x4 I had I ran bfg at. I put over 30,000 on them and they still has alot of tread when I sold truck. I just bought a new set of 33 12.50 15 for my Bronco. Michelin has bought Goodrich and the quality control has supposed to have gotten better. I know for a fact the new tires I have ride like a 235 75 15. I didnt ask the owner of the tire store how they balanced them but there are NO lead weights on the rims. NONE. I can drive down the road and let go of steering wheel and she will go straight for a lonnnnng way. I am very happy with the ride and handling of the new tires. If I was asked I would recommend them to anyone. Are they a mud tire? No but will handle moderate mud. And for sand which is what we have mostly here in Florida they are very hard to beat.

 

I got a screaming deal on a pair od 33x13.50 Thornbirds and threw em on the back of my trail toy. The generic all terrains on the front cleaned out better in the slop, but those massive side lugs did help on side hills and the like. They're designed for form over function, unless you spend most of your time in some extreme off camber situations.
