Why does Ford have a yellow and red "danger area" on the transmission temp gauge but only a red for everything else, including water temp?
The trans temp gauge is actually NOT an idiot light, theoretically if it rises out of the mid range it's telling you it's over it's normal temp, but you have until it pegs into the red before you actually damage anything. Something like <50* is nothing, 50-230* is mid range, 230-280 is above mid rising to yellow, above 280 is red.
Here's one: why did the Ford engineers think it would be a good idea to have the trip odometer reset to zero if you disconnect the batteries? Annoying. Did they want to save a few pennies on nonvolatile RAM or something?

I've always used my jump start battery to temporarily hook up when I disconnect/change out batteries to avoid these things, including having the PCM re-learning my driving style, etc.

I'll definitely do that in the future (or at the very least think to write down my trip odo before I do the job)...

Wow, that's a very interesting article. My tranny runs between 150-160 while towing, using my Dashboss to monitor. I can't imagine it heating up another 70-80* before showing danger on my gauge.
I guess that's why I have my Dashboss for towing with my personal perimeters set as alarms, when it gets hotter than 170 and 180.
Did ford not think that someone might want to listen to the radio in ACC with the doors open. Like when cleaning the truck without listening to the incessant DING DING DING DING

My old 87 Volvo has a switch override that allows for that. These guys were thinking about that many years ago.
Our trucks have an "event data recorder" just like the famous airplane black box, flight data recorders.
It can retrieve data from a crash to determine speed, throttle position, seat belts fastened, diagnostics, etc.
I wonder if the data is ever used by authorities to determine fault?
They require large suvs to have blocker bars to protect tiny cars, when tiny cars should be required to provide their occupants with adequate protection of their own?

also in that vein ...
why does the "key in ignition ding" over-ride the "you left your headlights on ding"
i know i left my keys in ... i did that on purpose.
what i didn't know is that my truck wouldn't start because i left my headlights on, THAT was NOT on purpose.
irritating.
