I currently have a 2012 157" wb F150 Lariat. 5.0
I'm considering a trade for a new 2016 F150 Lariat with the 2.7 EB. I have found one that fits my budget but it has the twin panel moonroof option, which honestly I don't really have feelings about one way or the other. The Ford site shows one picture of it but really gives no other details I could find.
Is there an interior cover panel that covers the whole thing up?
I'd appreciate any feedback on it.

 

Yes there is. I have one, to please the wife, it is powered. when you push the button it opens half way you have to push it a second time to op[en the cover all the way. There are several options to open the glass only the front half moves.

 

If you dont want it, Id look for a truck without....

As earlier stated, yes they do have a nice retractable panel. The twin panel roof is actually nice, like you, I'm normally ambivalent about such, but I like mine.

I feel the same way, i wouldn't have purchased the Sun Roof but my wife wanted it and I find I do enjoy using it. Except in the heat of summer here in Texas, That sun do get hot and just closing the shade makes a world of difference.

 

I actually had (not really tinted) but a film applied to mine, it seems to reflect better. May be a placebo affect, but.......

 

I can't remember the name but it is a clear 'tint' that reduces the uv light entering the cab. Makes a ton of difference. Can be used on the moonroof and front windows because it doesn't have any darkening effect.

 

Yep, like you I can't remember what mine was, it's 3M, I do know that.... it does seem to help, you need it in South Mississippi!��

I looked it up, 3M Crystalline Automotive Film....

 

I had 3M Crystalline on my last truck. I did all the windows. I did 70 on the windshield and 40 on the other windows. It does block out a good deal of heat. The truck would still get hot sitting in the sun, but it seemed the AC didn't have to work as hard to cool it down. Also it blocked the waves that make you skin feel heat so it was much more comfortable. I hope I can do the same with my new truck. I don't have a sun roof this time so hopefully I can get it done for $800 ish.

 

I had ceramic heat rejecting tint installed on my truck. I can definitely feel a difference compared to the regular dyed tint I always had before. It cost $330 with tax to do the entire truck, including the windshield brow. My truck doesn't have a sunroof. I'm very pleased with the tint, and it is definitely needed with the high temps we get in south Louisiana.

 

What brand did you get? What tint % did you get? How does it match up to the factory tint?
I had the entire windshield done, that was about $230. It cost more since my 3rd visor frits where on the surface so they had to double tint above the AS1 line to hide it. The sun roof was $199, the rear sliding window was $199 and the side windows were $80 x 4. Add on the lovely 11% Illinois sales tax and poof your out a grand.

 

I have the 3M ceramic. I had them put 30% on the front windows and 40% over the factory tint on the rear doors and rear sliding window. I did it this way so that the front and rear doors would match about as close as I could could get them to since the rear already had factory tint. The only reason I had them install tint over the factory tint was because I wanted to have heat rejection in the back, just like in the front. I have the 6" brow across the top of my windshield. I would love to have my entire windshield tinted, but that's a guaranteed ticket in Louisiana. The sales tax here is 9% and it cost $330 for everything. This is the first truck I ever had ceramic tint installed on. I'm very pleased with it so far.

The week after I got my 2016 tinted, I had them do my 2011 XL that I bought over the summer. On that truck I got them to install the standard dyed tint since i just use it as a secondary vehicle. I had them do 20% all around on it, and it cost me $120 including tax. This truck has the Madico brand tint.

 

You will have a feeling one way or the other when a rock from the car or truck in front of you trows a rock and breaks the roof. Not an easy or inexpensive fix. Find a truck without the sun roof.
