1999 F250 Super Duty Wheel Bearings

Hey guys, haven't posted on here in a while, but I just was looking under my truck recently and after starting to hear a little noise in my front end with my hubs locked in, I noticed my stub shaft on the drivers side has a small bit of play up and down. I have done some checking and im sure it is my needle bearings. Ive been really busy and haven't had a chance to tear into it. Im still in high school, but fairly mechanically inclined. I Know it isn't my u joints because they isn't any play in them. my question is how hard of a job is it. also, what would you recommend for replacements. replace whole hub? or just press in new needle bearings. I assume its a dana 50 from what ive read. I will also need to replace that special seal and im debating on whether to buy the special tool just so I always have it. ball joints are solid on both sides and my passenger side stub shaft doesn't have any play. my dust seal is junk on drivers side too. should I replace that with the updated part? just need some recommendations on whether to use ford parts, or just get the spicer parts from some dealer online. or should I go with napa seals, bearings, and joints?
Thanks

do you have manual 4wd or auto? My auto hubs stopped working so i replaced them with Warn Premium hubs so i reused the hub knuckle seal. My dust seals i upgraded to the new design and they are holding up great after four years. I still have the factory unit bearings and needle bearings but i grease them once a year, 121k and still going

I have manual hubs and when I unlocked them the other day the oring rolled outside of it so I will either have to get some warn hubs or mile marker lock outs. what do people recommend? can you rebuild that part of them?

You may need a stub shaft also. Not to bad of a job if you have the seal installer.

okay. thank you both for the help. I do have a question on where to get the seals and bearings. Napa okay? or should I just go with Ford? or would you recommend a place on ebay to get replacement spicer products?
Thanks

Okay guys, its been a long week and weekend but I did manage to remove the old hubs and I put in some warn lockouts. I really like them...now my question to you is. when both lockouts are removed from the hub, and the stub shaft ends are exposed, is there anything else that will cause the wheel and axle shaft to spin at the same time? I thought that is both hubs are unlocked, the axle shafts shouldn't spin at all, but without my lockouts in, I spun the passenger side wheel with it both off the ground, and the axle shat spun on that side. the drivers side didn't have that problem. Is that normal? what could possibly be binding inside there to turn it???? thanks

In 2wd both axles should turn free somewhat. You still have to go through the differential spider gears etc. Try turning the driveshaft by hand and see what turns...If one turns then shove a screwdriver in the ujoint to stop it the other one should turn.

If the stub shaft becomes welded to the axle support bearing they will turn together.
Napa will save some money over dealership but only use the SKF unit bearing not the cheaper version. They probably will not have the stub shaft.

Okay, if the skf bearing assemblies are good that is probably what I will go with. what about the stub shaft seals. should I get the ford ones or does napa have a reliable one too? I would imagine I will have to do both sides now. I just had passenger side ball joints done within the last year. That is the side that isn't spinning freely. good thing I bought the seal installer tool.

I would get the updated ones from Ford. Put lots of grease for seal to slide on. Good fortune.

If you go to Napa, it is their B2110 bearing. They cannot look it up or cross-check it on their computers. They only have the hub assembly. I can vouch for this since they looked at me like I was crazy but they had one. It is about $10 and fit into my hub to replace the one that blew up.

You can't replace the bearings in the hub assembly. You can replace the stub shaft bearing though.
