I have been pushed away from home since june of 2013.
I was walking out to my work truck one evening last week. This was sitting on the truck. Headed for South Carolina to it's new owner.
1957 or 58 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser. Very Cool I thought!
Nice! Is that the mercury version of the Starliner?
I wish I knew! I never heard of it. I did a little research online, all I read was they were top of the line and made in '57 and '58 I just pictured me cruising down the highway in it! It looks like you could sleep comfortably in that trunk!
Cool cars no doubt......
Those were the years of styling excess, it seems. If a little is good, more is better. Chromed to the nines, long, ornate grilles, space age styling. The dash is just as cool.
Certainly worlds different than the new stuff running around now.
In this old man's opinion, that is the epitome of a late '50s cruiser. That is one beautiful car pictured.
Side note: A young guy I knew back when, bought a new Turnpike Cruiser. He hadn't had it long till a deer came through the windshield to rest beside him in the front seat.
Enough chrome to build another car. Great cars, rode like a dream. Maybe a little hard to park and not exactly sports car handling, but a blast to drive around in now.
Beautiful, from when cars were art, unfortunately when the first gas crises hit in 70 something, I think it was during the Iranian hostage crises, people couldn't get rid of the big American beauties fast enough. IMO that was the start of the shapeless gas savers. I'm glad to see that a couple of the American favorites are re appearing lately, like the early style Mustang, Charger, etc. I do realize crude oil, thus gasoline is a finite resource that pollutes our environment and should be used wisely, but would it hurt to to put a little more style back into the equation ? I cant tell one from another most of the time. Im so glad that some of the old beauties survived the crusher. Ill never forget riding in the back seat of our neighbors Hudson Hornet as a kid, luxurious for sure.

My dad built a dirt track engine that came out of one of those cars, I am thinking that it was a big cubic inch Y-block, I could be wrong but I am thinking 383 cubes. Somebody please set me straight
If I remember, the rear window also went down.
The engine wasn't a Y. Could have been a 383. There was also a 430 similar to the Edsel 410. Which, was not an FE engine.
according to wikipedia they had a 368 in 57. 58 was a 383 or 430 marauder engine. the super marauder had triple carbs and 400HP. a friend's father had a new back in the day gold two door hardtop super marauder. stylin'
