7.3l IDI f250HD

So i have this chance to buy a 1990 F250HD with the 7.3IDI for $400-500. It runs good and no smoke. I have not yet seen it in person but my brother told me about it. It has the 2 tone paint with the red interior. It has 4.10 rear gears. How well Does it do on MPG? And what would it be worth? The truck has $400 in back fees and would cost about $150 to redjuster it. My brother said it would be better for the guy to part it out. All the truck needs is new glow plugs.

I would buy it. But that is just me. Will get much better mpg than your 460 powered truck, even with the 4.10 gears. If everything else is in good shape, I think it is a good deal. My .02

Yea I want to get the truck but it would be my dad buying it. He gives me $100 every 2 weeks too get gas so that's $200 a month. The price of gas has gone over the price of diesel before.

3 gallons of gas to go to school one day. My 460 gets 8 mpg around town, so I am guessing yours does too. The diesel should get 12-15 around town, so that alone should cut your fuel bill in half.

Buy it! Glow plugs are easy to do! As long as you use beru/ motorcraft plugs only you will be fine. You should get better mpg with it. I love my 94 idi and I would jump at a chance to buy a truck for that price in a heartbeat if that's all it needed. Feel free to ask more questions if need be.

If it needs glow plugs, ask how they've been starting the truck without them. If it's addicted to ether, you might want to walk away. Otherwise, even if it needs glowplugs, IP, etc, I'd be all over that if it was $500 and the body / transmission were in useable condition.

As for mileage, my truck has 4.10's and the E4OD, 300k on the IP and injectors, and I average right around 12.7-13MPG. I've gotten as high as 15, but that was towing a trailer with an Explorer on it; somehow, trailer + double weight = better fuel economy. I'm convinced witchcraft has something to do with it.

Not to hijack the thread, but my F350 gets better mpg on the highway towing my car trailer empty than it does without the car trailer. Makes no sense to me.
