new guy - question about 4x4 factory wheel options

What's up everyone. I'm looking for a weekend 4x4 truck to just have some fun in but I've narrowed it down to wanting an single cab long bed I think. I wouldn't be against an extended cab but don't need it and they seem to be a little higher priced obviously.

Anyways, can someone tell me what causes certain wheels to be used from the factory (different models etc???) See below on the type of wheels I like. Is there something that causes these types of wheels to come on the truck?

Also, sometimes the grill will be gray/black on certain trucks. Is that just somebody plasti dipping it or what? I like the chrome grill. 2nd pic is of wheels i DON'T like

Its just the way they were ordered from the factory. Rims and grills both. Generally the black grills were on the low end work trucks and faded to gray pretty quickly. If you see a glossy black grill its been painted or plasti dipped.

A lot of the time it has to do with the XLT or XL Trim Levels, and XLT being the High end Trim it usually comes with the Chrome Grills & Bumpers & most of the time has the Bullet Hole Style Rims. But some XL's can have Chrome accents also,it's just like SteelHorse4x4 said it has a lot to do in how they were ordered from the Factory. But from what your wanting I'd say search for a Truck with the XLT Trim Package..

Yeah usually they are faded grey. I don't know why someone would order it like that but everybody has different taste. I would agree typically they are on the work trucks. Btw nice truck!

Thanks. What's kind of weird is sometimes you'll see an XL w/ leather. Now that's a little odd to me.

The aluminum wheels were an optional extra. My XLT was loaded with everything but the aluminum wheels for '92. It now has them though...

You still have the factory wheels w/ your lift kit and new tires? Looks good man!

Look at what you CAN'T easily fix like rust or body damage. You can get those rims off craigslist for $150-200 if not cheaper. I sold a set for $75 a year ago. The grille you can pick or buy aftermarket. I just redid mine chrome for $120 including new headlights and turn/parking lights.

Mine's got the factory aluminum wheels and just enough chrome to accent the black. And I'm not usually a chrome guy but I like the look.

Thanks. Its just getting started. Picked it up for 1700 right before it got cold last fall. I've always loved the Flareside from the first one I saw in a 4 Wheeler magazine in like 92 while I was on deployment. It was a Lund ad, and it had the Tonneau Cover, Moon Visor, and Racerback on it sitting on 35's, but as typical life got in the way then. The original owner ordered it with almost every option he could back then including factory alarm. The only thing I don't like on it is the colors, but when I saw it on craigslist last fall and only 30 miles away and was able to drive it home, it was a no brainer for me. LOL.
