Cup Holder Home Made 2001 Ranger
I have always been a bit perplexed with the cup holder in my Ranger due to the limited space for music discs (like 1 only) and the cup pocket that is too small to hold a coffee mug.
Now I have space for all my important stuff:
A coffee mug.
A disc of blues artists; Brownie McGhee (guitar) and Sonny Terry (harmonica).
And also a Swiss Pocket Knife so I can trim my fingernails while creeping along in snow bound traffic.
Bottom view shows the features required to attach the holder to the floor.
Top view shows holder bored, ported and polished similar to a race car manifold.
Cup Holder installed and loaded with all of my treasures.

Must be the reason they went to those new-fangled automatic transmissions, and moved the lever to the steering column. Design mod suggestion: On the rear-most cup cutouts, create a notch in the right position to allow the mug handle to hang over the back, direction option your choice, so you don't have to reach into a depression to snag the handle, and can also have a secondary liquid stored in the front-most cutout while still being able to use the mug w/handle.
How is it fastened in place? I see the three metal pieces attached to the bottom, but what do they 'stick' to?
Just asking, as I have a 5-speed floor shifter and no possible room for a holder except maybe way way forward under the dash...

Cup Handles and Attachment Features
I considered including additional cup handle cutouts but then I got lazy. As for the cup handle imposing on the adjacent cup pocket, if you're a two-fisted drinker you are limited to using only one at a time.
The stock cup holder is a two-piece unit; the cup holder and an adapter plate. The adapter plate is fastened to the floor pan with 4 screws, The cup holder attaches to the adapter plate with 2 quarter turn fasteners. The keyhole shaped cutouts that you see are for the 1/4 turn fasteners and the rectangular shaped aluminum piece is like a tongue that fits into the adapter plate. I.E., the 1/4 turn fasteners hold the cup holder to the floor and the tongue prevents the cup holder from pivoting around the hold-downs.
