1978 f150 4x4 frame, 351m, and t-case worth $500 ??
Found someone selling a 1978 f150 4x4 frame that comes with 351m, c6, and t-case for $500. Does anyone think it's a good deal? I currently have a 78 f150 4x4 with a c6 and 351m I'm starting to restore so would it be a good price or should u try to talk him down a little on it?

It is also very close by so not far to go to get it. I haven't been able to do a lot to my truck yet but just starting. I wanted to take cab and bed off to replace bushings and other things and also put a lift on the truck so I believe getting another frame would help out a little just transfer to other frame after restoring it and adding lift. Just my opinion most guys here would have better insight on it than me.

x2 as Jklnhyd. That's exactly how I feel. But there is a lot of background info that needs to be addressed first. Like how many miles are on the drivetrain? Are they in good running order or does anything need rebuilt. Such as the engine, trans, x case, differentials? Or do they just need freshening up. Like new seals, fluids, and u joints. That will greatly affect value. Does the frame come with a title? These are all things to consider and ask before appraising value.

Thats a good point. But would he register it as the frame vin? Or cab vin?
The core exchange parts alone, are worth more than $500. You could offer a TC rebuild shop one tc inexchange for a rebuild on the other? Same with engine.

The title goes with the frame, double ck your local DMV to get the law, but the norm is title with frame.
The door mounted "warranty tag" has the vin on it, but it not the vin plate like new cars have on the dash. That is what alot of license dept think and what most look for.
4x4 frame the vin should be stamped on top of the frame rail in line with the alternator, and where the seat front mount bolt would be inline with the frame.
So for the OP get the title of frame if you can and take the truck body title and the frame title to the DMV together and let them figure it out legal wise.
Yes Alan you got a deal and the free parts to fix the front end, remember?

I'm in Massachusetts and have never in my life had anyone check the frame #'s on anything I have ever had.
Only time I ever had a frame # checked was on a bike I registered in Florida. So I'm guessing it goes by the state.

Oh no it's federal. If a state DOT cop or any other cop for that matter. Or state inspection mech. has any reason to check for theft either by means of the whole truck in this case or just certain parts. They'll check all areas of where a VIN number is supposed to be. And they'll want to check that the title matches said frame. Now depending on your local state laws I believe, is when the laws concerning an R- title may vary. For example I've been told that here in PA if you so much as change the color of your vehicle your supposed to inform PennDOT of the changes and they'll issue you an R-title. Which automatically reduces the resale value of your vehicle.

Rich & Alex are right. The door tag HAS the vin but is NOT the official vin in ANY state. The official vin on these trucks is stamped on the frame. If the door tag WERE the vin, you could swap the tag on a stolen truck in mere seconds which is why it is not the official vin even though some treat it as such
