Looking for general info: '74 F-250

I am very interested in a truck on ebay and would like some general info on it. Here's the Ebay ad: http://www.ebay.com/itm/271415772756?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I asked the seller if it would make the drive from where he is to where I live (Winchester, VA - Raleigh, NC) which is roughly 300 miles.
He said it would make it but would take a long time.

What do these trucks top out at? If I can go 75mph I would be happy as a clam.

I'm looking to use the truck around town, to pull my tractor (5000lbs) maybe twice a year and to load up with mulch, compost while I work in the garden. And to drive 2.5 hours to the beach to fish once a month during the season.

The seller isn't quick to respond.

What do y'all think?

75 mph is pushing it . Crusing speed is more like 60 -65 mph .

If you are hauling a lot of stuff , be aware that bed height is high ..

Also, the engine has been swapped. The truck originally came from the factory with a 300 cu in 6 cylinder (4th VIN digit "B"). The 390 was never offered in the 4WD trucks, it could be a 360 which, visually, is identical to a 390.

For fun, see how much it would cost to ship.

Uship.com

I am using that site to ship my truck from California to Texas in a few months. Im waiting for bids. The "ship now" cost is less than $1/mile.

Whew, I don't know that a 65mph top speed will cut it. Is the 360 a good motor if that's what it is?

360 FE engines haven't been manufactured since 1976 . It is an obsolete design from 1958 . It is not the engine choice for everybody .
You can go faster than 65 ,but it will take a toll on the engine .

Your top speed and cruising speed are a direct function of gearing and tire diameter.
As for the 360, there were millions of them put in trucks through the years. Dependable but somewhat underwhelming in the performance department. A lot of 360s magically become 390s when the truck goes up for sale. The only difference between them is the stroke, 360=3.50", 390=3.78". There are no numbers or visual differences to be able to tell them apart. You have to measure the stroke.
