HELP!!! brand new f350 w/ 6.2 fuel milage
#16
It'll get better. I've got a '13 CC 4X4 with a 4.30 gear. Getting mid 13's MPG without even trying. I've gotten as high as 18 MPG on the hwy unloaded at @55 with ethanol free 91 octane. The type of gas you burn will have an effect on your mileage.

Check your tire pressure, run several tanks of gas through, get rid of the cold air intake and tune. You will be getting better MPG's. I've had my 6.2 for 7 months. I have 11k on it and right now I'm getting 14 average. This tank of gas 14.8 this is mixed hwy and city. Also it's a brand new truck and you've put a tuner on it? Cold Air intake? DON'T like your warranty eh?
Like everyone on this thread has said wait and it'll get better. You actually purchased a heavy duty truck and your complaining about milage? You should have bought a Toyota Tacoma...

11 F250CC 6.2 gas 3.73 8.5mpg. 42 cents per mile. This truck has 162k on it so I don't think it's gonna get any better. Lol
Basically the diesel saves .17 per mile, multiply by how ever many miles you drive. I do like that the oil changes and fuel filter cost is less and I don't have to run antigel in the winter in the gasser, but the trade off is economy and towing power. I don't think over 162000 miles the $27540 extra spent on gas was a good decision.

Here is my math based on two trucks that I currently own. This is at current fuel prices. 11 F250CC 6.7 diesel 3.31e 16mpg. 25cents per mile
11 F250CC 6.2 gas 3.73 8.5mpg. 42 cents per mile. This truck has 162k on it so I don't think it's gonna get any better. Lol

I don't doubt your results but it surely is not 8.5 mpg and no other extenuating circumstances.

Should have got the diesel. The 6.2 is more then capable of doing it's job, its just the fuel mileage that suffers. As others have pointed out gas is now cheaper then diesel which I think is making more people consider the gas option. Your manual says not to keep track of fuel mileage for the first 1000(can't remember if its 1000 or more) due to the break in. You should see it improve from your 8.5 but not by much. Just for comparisons with the winter fuel before I did the DPF delete I was getting 14 to high 15s if I babied it. In the summer I was getting 17-18 just driving it normal, not babying it, but not beating on it. I don't know what I'll get deleted since I just did it about a month ago but I'll let you know. On the highway from WA to GA going 65 all the way I was getting 20MPG with winter fuel using PM-22A.

I find this comment funny. My wife's Tacoma gets TERRIBLE gas milage compared to todays standards. As a matter of fact, we typically use my truck for long road trips because theres more space to haul our stuff and gas goes a lot further. We can go from NC to PA and about a 1/4 of the way back on one tank in my F250, we have to fill up three times in her Tacoma so it’s kind of a wash either way. My milage dropped with AT tires, Ranchhand guard up front and a 200 LB cap on the back, but I still average 13 mixed. Wait until you hitch up to something! Mine goes down to 8 MPG with my TT hooked up

There are lots of 6.2L mileage threads on this forum. It seems people vary from about 9-16mpg, on average. Of course it depends on many variables, including (but not limited to) temperature, terrain, cab / bed configuration, 4WD/2WD, rear end ratio, mix of city / highway driving, etc, etc. Even with my manual hubs locked in all winter, I can still achieve 15mpg on certain trips; I usually get about 9mpg just driving all week around town during the winter. Now that my truck has 11k miles on it, I expect as high as 18mpg this summer on longer, flatter, 55mph driving with the hubs disengaged.

You mistook my post. I was in no way saying he should have gotten a diesel, as I completely agree with your reason against the diesel. I was saying its a huge truck with a large v8, its not a civic......

you were right! 2500 miles now and mileage is about 11mpg, still not good, but better than 8.5mpg I started with!!!

My new 6.2 gets about 14 mpg empty on the highway at 70 mph. My old 7.3 did the same, so I put that in the win column. Towing it might be a different story, the thing is I don't tow that much. There's a thread on here from a guy that makes frequent short trips like I do so his 6.7 is in a constant regen and he's getting 10 mpg. Sometimes a diesel makes sense, sometimes it doesn't. We're not going to get 18 mpg with a 6.2.
