Tassie,
Chuck in my two bobs worth, that plate looks like a bodgie , maybe lifted off a Falcon sedan??
I ran into exactly the same problems as you, but I didn't have any plates to work off at all. I have a supposedly 1968 F350 with the 6 cylinder 240/300 also has the same 6 stud pattern wheels except mine are aftermarket 'Sunraysia' style 15" singles.
If you can't pin it down here, you may also try the Australian H.C.V.C. That's heavy commercial vehicle club. I got a lot of help identifying bits and pieces from them as well as here.
One thing I can tell you is that we over here in Oz lag behind the States and Canada when trying to sort out part numbers and model designations, sometimes by as much as 3 years. I can attest to that through bitter experience. There are some very helpful as well as knowledgeable blokes on these forums willing to give you a chop out if you ask politely, but do be aware of differences in designated models/years. As one scribe wrote when answering a post of mine " AUSTRALIA? All bets are OFF!" What he meant was simply we seem to run our own race is SOME things, throw the model book out the window!
Just as an aside, if you have the "Big Six" 240/300 and the New Process box, nothing wrong with that combo unless of course they require major surgery, keep 'em alive.
Best of luck with it, looks a tidy old jigger.

I'd agree with what Dave said with regards to keeping your current engine/trans. Probably the most reliable petrol engine/trans combo Ford ever put in a vehicle - although a bit slow.
If you have your heart set on swapping out the engine/trans, look at getting a 4BD1T or 6BD1T and transmission out of an Isuzu cabover.

As far as the drive-train goes, well I am either going to look at a overdrive or change the gearing in the diff as it rev's it's head off cruising along the highway, and you definitely do not get there in a hurry. Power steering is needed so will have to do some research into what is needed for that as I think you can swap over components from later models.
The old girl needs some loving so maybe a good tune up will improve things however long term she may get some treatment as my 6 year old son wants to turn it into a hot rod!! not sure how that would work but he did see a truck recently that had airbags which allowed it to be dropped onto the ground....
BigF350 you are quite welcome to donate one of your trucks as the donor truck!!

Simon,
Don't know how I got confused with the ID plate, thinking it was Falcon. Must have had it mixed up with something else, my apologies. Do well to read postings fully! You are right of course.
Best of luck with it, encourage the young bloke by all means, someone needs to keep these old jiggers alive, in whatever form.
Dave.

Hi Dave, all good I did make reference earlier to my plate being similar to the Falcon plate so maybe that is where I confused you, do you have any photos of your truck in the forum ? Have you converted it to later style power steering? And finally do you know in OZ anyone who could provide me with a replacement front drivers side guard? I know I can get them from US but I imagine they would be damaged by the time they arrived. cheers, Simon

Hi Simon,
I get a few bits and pieces off a pair of brothers just west of Geelong, Paul and Garry, trade under the name of "West Coast F100 Salvage", easygoing blokes who will try and help you. I was after a replacement bare cab at one stage and I know they could have got hold of one for me. They are on the net and advertise on feebay (new stuff mostly) but worth a phone call, better than emailing them, their phone numbers are on the site, if not, let me know and I'll forward it to you in a PM. The other bloke who comes to mind is a guy by the name of Jason from down Seaford way, on the Mornington Peninsular. He is also on feebay, trades under the name of "Seascrap" I think from memory, I bought a disc brake front end off him only a month or so ago. he had at least half a dozen Fords in there at the time.
In answer to your query, no, the only photo's I posted were of the six stud wheels when trying to identify the age of the vehicle. My cabin is shot through with rust, nothing really worth salvaging there, but good mechanics in/on it. It had a very good "trady's " lock up body on it, plus the chassis/ running gear too good to put the axe through it! Mate of mine came up with this exotic idea of using the chassis and running gear as some sort of "Munstermobile" a-la the sixties TV show, but he wants to steal my postal Jeep and mount it over the back end! And put some ridiculous sized V8 out the front! I think it was a case of getting your ideas confused with your realities! I must admit though, it did have some appeal, in an esoteric sort of way.
Cheers for now, you'll have to post some ongoing snaps as work progresses. By the way, no power steering on my old girl either, "Armstrong" steering as we used to call it when I first started driving trucks.
