Ford Emblem Failure........

OK, so I have Ford Emblem Failure. WTF?

Came outside yesterday morning and see a blue thing lying on the ground. Pick it up and it is actually the overlay of the Ford emblem from my tailgate. I had no idea it was even an overlay (old ones were all 1 piece deals) and it just plain fell off in one piece. NEVER have seen such a thing on any car brand I have owned in the 100 or so vehicles I have owned.

Looked at the front emblem and it too is a POS overlay. Underneath is a cheap fake chrome looking piece. Looks kind of cool without the Blue oval, but this should not happen on a VERY well cared for truck with only 16K miles on it.

We'll see what my local Ford dealer has to say about it in the morning. I have bumper to bumper for 100K and can't wait hear how the emblem is not covered in that. Hopefully, it doesn't come to that.

Ford emblem failure is nothing new. The clear coat on the 05-07 trucks fails but still leaves the blue in tact just faded looking. You would think since the emblem is their corporate symbol and the one thing that most clearly identifies their product that they would want it to be a quality item that would shine with pride for many years yet they seem to go the cheap route and shame themselves in the process.

Mine has collected dirt in between the outer shell and the logo part. Funny that those aftermarket LED lit tailgate emblems are CHEAPER than the OEM part.

I'll wait until mine falls off first I guess.

One would think, huh.

Now because of Ford's cheap is better emblem, I have to let some local ford "tech" near my truck with the hope that he doesn't F-up my paint while taking the old one off and to get the new one perfectly straight.

This kind of thing should never occur in the first place, and its little things like this that really make me question my Blue oval loyalty.

When my tailgate got repainted, the emblem got pulled off and re-adhered using 3M VHB adhesive. Good stuff.

They are all over ebay. You can get Cat, Peterbilt, Punisher, John Deere, etc. They come in different colors even camo. Since I am in the heavy civil construction business and we use almost exclusively Cat equipment, I will probably go that route when my emblems crap out. Who knows, I may do Deere since that is an old family favorite.

Well said... This is why I asked Chris Brewer (Lead Super Duty engineer or something like that) when he came to FTE to promote the new 6.7 Power Stroke, if he fixed the cheap emblems from fading like on my 05 truck and he answered "Yes".

The new emblems will not fade as they are not like the old all plastic ones. The new ones are actually like a laminate with the Blue Ford being the outer layer over a chrome inner base. The laminate completely peeled/released off the base.
