at what point is a sas the way to go

SO...I am in the process of resurecting my newly aquired 93 bronco.

I have access to a front axle fron a 78 bronco for nearly free with everything i need off of the truck. The hitch is I just bought new stock size tires and am not wanting to lift it really at all. its going to be my daily driver/family hauler. My garage doors are only 7' tall also and I have to be able to get it in and out of the shop also.

I have searched the sas swap threads but didnt really find what I was looking for. Thanks for the help!

SAS requires a lift of some type because of the location of the pumpkin, that combined with your real needs means there is simply no point in doing a SAS on this rig.

There is no point for you going SA, the axle strength difference is minimal for the huge amount of work you'll need, you haven't considered that maybe the 78 axle isn't geared the same as your new truck, so that would cost further resources and time.

I agree that it is not what i need 100%. The gearing is the least of my worries. THe work does not worry me either. I was just looking for advice as to at what point is it the next step. My cc psd is of course straight axle (60) so it would be nice to have one under the bronco.

I could go SAS on my '91, but I think I want to try the D50 TTB first. I already have 4" of lift and am running 33x12.50's with no trouble with my D44 TTB.

Lots o' fabrication with that option (D50 TTB) as the 1/2-ton (F-series/Bronco) never had front leaf springs and the D50 TTB is (rather oddly) leaf sprung. Not that it can't be done... there are plenty of photos to prove it has. Just a lot of work for so little strength improvement and so much restriction to articulation.
