Checking lifetime fuel mileage

Checking lifetime fuel mileage
2013 F150 with ecoboost. How do I check lifetime fuel mileage?
I found that if you hold the reset button when turning the ignition to on, it will enter engineering mode and let you scroll through a number of "info"screens. One looks to be lifetime mileage (15.4 in my case).
Is this the correct method?

I don't know of any way to get average fuel economy other than the two trip odometers and fuel monitor screen. That gives you three separate records to play with. I have never reset the 2nd trip odometer since the truck was new (two years ago).
The one time I did go into engineering mode it screwed up the trip odometers somehow. The total miles and fuel economy got reset.... And I was PISSED!!! Total hours remained untouched. So be forewarned, if you've put work into keeping a lifetime average then stay out of engineering mode or same thing might happen to you.

I was going to post something along this very subject by saying that I really don't see how keeping the B tripometer unchanged since new is really going to change all that much. The further you go the harder it will be to change the overall fuel milage. I have thought about just resetting it and using it as a normal trip especially for when towing.
I keep looking back on the B trip and really it has gone down from the original amount and it would take an unbelievable amount of freeway milage driving at say 55 to bring up your average fuel consumption.
Any other thoughts? Tom? Tim? TSeekins and D8Chumley)

I could be wrong. But my trip meter only has 4 digits. So after 9,999 miles it will reset or start at 0000. I guess the fuel number won't. So it will display life time as long as u don't reset the b trip

the number you see in the engineering mode is simply the number that the computer uses to calculate your distance to empty. I would not take that to be representative of your lifetime fuel average.
as for the lie-o-meter being way off, it appears to be truck dependant.
every time I've checked mine it is within 0.1 MPG of hand calc. it really just depends on how you fill up. Before i started shutting it off at the click and using the same pump, my numbers were all over the place. but since i reset right before start up, and don't add any more after the click, the meter has been spot on with the hand calc.
I use my trip B to keep track of oil change miles.... easiest way i've found.

Yes I saw that too the other morning which was why I thought it was pretty useless to track lifetime Milage. The program Tom uses would be a better bet.
