Auto to manual transmisson. Need opinions
Hey!
I have got a -91 F250 which I have converted from auto to a manual ZF5.
Last couple of years I have been looking for a newer truck ( 1999-2002). Not many for sale in Norway. And absolutely none with manual transmission. Now I wonder if I should just by an auto, and convert it to a ZF5 or 6.
How much more complicated is it on a Powerstroke truck compared to my idi?
Of course it is going to cost me quite some money. I have to import all needed parts from USA. Can anyone please list all the parts I need?
Thanks!

It can be done, and has been done many times here at FTE. I usually don't have much luck with the search function here looking for threads several years old, but hopefully someone else sees this who is better at searching than me and can provide you with some links.
Physically, it's the same process as doing your IDI. The problem comes from the computers involved with the newer trucks. Seems like there were either consistent codes or check engine light troubles. Didn't affect how the truck ran, just annoying.
The floor pan is different on the auto trucks, so you have to cut the hump out of the floor to give clearance for the ZF-6 to fit, so you'll either need to fab that part up or find someone here in the states to cut a hump out of a junkyard truck and send it to you.

I'm guessing what youre going to find is most guys just get what they want from the get go or just sell the auto and buy a manual truck. Obviously we don't have issues with that type of scenario here in the states like you're having in Norway. For most of us it's the logical option.
I do though wish you luck and keep us posted if you do indeed do this.

Well since no one capable seems to be willing to do the search and provide links for you, a good idea might be to shoot an email over to the guys at midwest transmission. ZF S650 6 speed Duramax & Ford F-250, F-350 Rebuilt Manual Transmission and Parts They're the place in the states that has a reputation for selling quality and/or upgraded stuff for the ZF-6. They could probably help you with the list of items needed and a quote to provide said items since finding a donor truck like we do here is out of the question.
