Escape 2001 4th Catalytic

I've less than 60,000 on this 4x4 and it has destroyed 3 Catalytic systems; looks like I'll have to install another. To bad a big company like Ford can't seem to fix a known problem. In fact I was told that all I could expect from this Vehicle is apx 10,000 - 20,000 miles from Exhaust under low mileage situations. LAST Ford and I pray their are lots of readers about this problem.

Where there other trouble codes along with the CAT trouble code?

My daughter has an 05 with about 80,000 on the odometer and there is a DTC for one CAT. I donʻt plan to change it soon, but

I donʻt think she will keep the truck long either.

Are there any TSB for this issue? Does your Escape have a 3.0?

just gonna ask this but have you folks looked at any possible upstream problems?

the cats on my escape have been fine...and at 160k my ECU finally took a nose-dive.

sounds to me like you might have been working with an overly rich or other similar problem?

Sounds like nonsense to me...

Converters haven't been a problem on the early Escapes and there are no TSBs to that effect. Most likely, you've been "fixing" the result of some other problem which hasn't been diagnosed properly. Misfires or otherwise excessively rich exhaust mixtures due to faulty fuel control are the usual culprits for failed converters.

We see "bad convertors" due to misdiagnosis all the time. We have now started requiring all customers returning "defects" to provide us with the proper/original documentation to support the claim, this includes fuel trim, any efficiency data, failed emissions reports, and all must be accompanied by the tech's current certifications. It has cut down a lot on the false defects. It has even forced some customers to stop buying from us because we quit giving them free money for their incompetence.

{Now we'll see if the OP actually posts anything back, this is probably going to be another one of the one post complaint bombs...}

I would point you to Bob Allen Ford and the 2001 escape under my name. Not sure if Bob Allen Ford will release the information. But they have repair the exhaust 3 times. Currently I'm not going to return to BAF and take it to another repair shop.
