BRAKE CALIPER ISSUE/NOISES

Last week I began to hear some funny noises coming from my front end. The noise would go away when I pressed on the brakes. A couple of days ago I took off the drivers side tire and found that the caliper appeared loose. Checked all the bolts and they were tight. I then checked to see if the caliper pucks were not frozen or stuck and that the caliper moved. All seemed fine. I then bleed the brakes and it held without noise just a few minutes. It appears that the pads are braking but not holding pressure and backing out causing the caliper move slightly causing the noise. Any clue why the pads are not holding.

Does the brake pedal feel spongy?

Yes....sometimes more than others. Sometimes when you press the brakes it wants to jump back at you....

My first guess is that you have sticking slide pins.

Checked the pins, they were greased and moved.... took them out again, cleaned them and re-greased them.....

Check your front wheel bearing hubs for looseness. I had front brake noise issues with my truck a few years ago, while driving I could here a squeaking/grinding noise until I would apply the brakes and the noise would go away. Found out that one of my unitized wheel bearing hubs was toast, allowing the rotor to lay over a bit and scrape, until the brakes were applied and forced the rotor to ride true once again. The truck never had the wheel bearing "growl" or vibration usually associated with a bad wheel bearing. Just a thought. Todd
