starting a new build and cant decide on a trans...........
im starting a new project and unlike most of the trucks ive done this one is going to be a street truck. other trucks ive done were for the track and its always make tons of power + powerglide = fast 1/4 mile. instead of nitrous nitrous nitrous im stepping out of my box and building a turbo street truck. heres the project. ive got a 69 f100 short box stepside. the motor is a 351 cleveland punched out to a 408 set up low compression for a turbo. i would like to run a 5 speed but im thinking a t5 wont hold up. is there a decent tranny setup out there that wont cost 3 grand just for a gear box or do i bite the bullet and just buy a t56 or tko to save the headache down the road?

.. and if ya opt for a short-shaft TKO, there is no need to get an aftermarket bellhousing cuz it'll bolt right up to the stock bell. It's still gonna be about $3,000 (trans/clutch/shifter/mount/speedo gear, etc.) but you won't have a headache or start out with a hammered, used transmission.
Example.. 360FE to a TKO-500:
Here are the on-center bolt pattern measurements yer gonna need to bolt-up a TKO-500:
Vertical:
Horizontal:
C'mon.. do it. You know you wanna....
