Dieslel to V10?

Good Morning - New to this forum!! I currently have a 2001 Dodge 2500 CTD that is soon to be coming off lease. As I am tired of the noise, smell and the fact that the diesel takes days to warm up here in Canada in the winter. Looked at & test drove a 2003 F350 Lariat CC with the V10 the other and was very impressed!! I pull a 27.5 ft fifth wheel but for only about 10% of my total mileage. The rest of the time the truck is my daily driver but usually only short commute. Anyone had a similar experience going from diesel to gas? I figure I can burn a lot of gas for the $$ difference between the 6.0 PSD (Which I'm not I want anyway - after doing some reading in this forum!). Your helpful thoughts/comments would be appreciated.

Buy the one you want! You will get V10 guys telling you the V10 is best and PSD guys telling you the PSD is best. Both are good get what you want you will be happy.

medic, I too had a Dodge CTD although it was a 1991. I now have a '03 V-10 with no regrets.

I don't know how much more torque the Cummins has but it probably is not much more than the V10. Diamon is right but he forgot one thing - the 6.0 has yet to be proven reliable. The V10 has proven to be a decent motor without any major faults. Just buy the V10, pump large quantities of gas into the tank. Be thankfull that you are not the poor sucker with a 6.0 that is on the back of that tow truck. I will not even consider one until I see them reach 150,000 without any problems. Go to the Ford dealer and look at all those pretty 6.0 in for repairs. I guess I can state this because I am on the V10 thread.

The '03 Cummins HO is rated for 555lb-ft @ only 1400 rpm!
The '03 Triton V10 rated for 425lb-ft @ 3250 rpm.

I can't see anything wrong with the Cummins except for Dodge Ram that's wrapped around it. The good news is the 6.8L V10 can be bought in a Ford pickup and it costs several thousand $$ less than any of the new diesel engine options.

I looked at the 6.0 vs V10 when I bought my V10. The 6.8 gets 13-14 highway 12-13 in town I pull a 26' 5er and get 9-10 towing. The extra $5,000 for the 6.0 and the lost of the $3,000 rebate (Jan 03) can buy a lot of gas. I now have 15K on the V10 and It pulls my fifth wheel with out a problem.

I went from a Y2K PSD to my current V-10 and haven't looked back and have no regrets. Yes there are differences (PSD 15 mpg hwy, V-10...13 mpg hwy) and I don't have to put up with the nasty diesel smell or worry about what station has diesel fuel.
I pull my trailer (8K lbs) and with the 4:30 gears it works out quite well, yeah the PSD may have pulled it a little better but it sure wasn't worth the headaches that I had to deal with.
Just my .03 cents worth.
