2014 February ICE STORM in the MID-SOUTH

Folks, this is looking bad. There has been a lot of damage, and a whole slew of power outages, but I'll give the power company due credit, they have jumped on the power outages and did a great job of clearing tree branches away from utility lines ahead of time, back in the autumn.

That having been said - here are some news feeds:

MWN Blog: Details on Friday's expected ice storm in the Mid-South

~The potential outlook is frankly severe

The Richardsons Landing area was without power yesterday or the day before for several hours - long enough for homes to get just plain cold inside!
I suppose one of the upsides is that if you lose power, all you need to do is take everything out of the fridge and set it all on your back deck (Now THERE'S some country smarts for ya...)

I plan to hole up with my dogs inside a sleeping bag if worse come to worse...

But I wish I had more propane cans.

I credit THEOLOGIAN, several years ago, for pointing out a device in an Asian market in Mira Mesa that I still have and have a full pack of fuel cans for - it is a butane fueled single burner stove in a portable suitcase about the size of a laptop computer that I can cook on if the need arises.

~ One hopes I do not have to call it into play. Then again, I have lots of fallen wood available for a campfire out back!

I forget who once said it, but:
"A gentleman is always prepared"

~ And there is a Store right across the street.

My toes are cold even as I write this, but I'm not worried about it.

Woola sleeps on top of my legs and feet - and my bag keeps me warm. It was supposed to be a summer sleeping bag, but I went around the world with it on the Nimitz. Between the two - I sweat in my sleep.

I keep a bottle of water next to me for that reason.

If the power goes out - I know enough to be safe

DO NOT WORRY ABOUT ME! I have it covered with "COUNTRY SENSE"

~ AT1 J.

PS: If I need to bail - I have my neighbors and friends. WE NEVER forget eachother!

I saw snow coming down earlier - and I prefer it to ice because snow is fluffy and will blow off of the trees when it accumulates too much.

Where the hell are the rest of you? Is your internet connection disrupted or are you just not willing to share online???

Pffffffttttt......

Or maybe you have no time for it.

Been crazy busy at work this week----

Hope you have weathered the storm (so to speak) without too much discomfort. It has just been rainy and cooler (40's) around here.
