Interesting Story about Scouting for Trucks

"Hey lady, your old man looks like he's ready to croak. How are you kids to deal with?" I can see that may be taken the wrong way.

This type of guy is all over. There's one in NW WI that has some decent old iron still in his yard but every time you ask how much he wants for something he replies, "What'll you offer?" When you give him an offer he comes back with, "They're not made anymore and I can get 3 times that for scrap." I talked to a couple of locals and they told me the guy never wants to sell anything. The last time I was up there, 3-4 years ago, he was quite old, I didn't ask if he was planning to die soon though. He'll probably croak soon and his kids will do a mass crush to clean the place out.
A lot of times when discussions about these guys come up inevitably some one will say, "It's his stuff and he can do what he wants with it." I agree but I just some of these old coots, who probably paid little or nothing for this stuff are just being cranky old coots who like to tick people off. The sad thing is most of them wait too long and their "gold" sinks into the ground and later gets crushed, they end up loosing everything they hoarded for the last 50 years while someone who could have used it missed out on it.

Well, as long as we're talking about goofy guys that may or may not sell stuff...
Here is a google earth view of a guys yard south of Las Cruces, NM. I was able to wander around this guys place for an afternoon. He will sell some stuff and advertises on Craigslist. He has a lot of chevy stuff, tri 5's chevelles, etc. But he does have some great Ford stuff and a couple of COE's. Walking around his place, the stuff towards the house on the south end he wont hardly talk about. Every car is full to the brim with cool parts; 6 pack intakes, tunnel rams, finned valve covers, etc but if you ask him he'll say "I don't think I'm ready to sell that"
I see him at swap meets every now and again buying stuff, but he doesn't want to sell too much.
I keep pestering him though (especially on this one old T-bucket)

Bobby, about 12 years ago, on a tip from a Flathead Forum member, I went to "yard" in the arroyos just north of Las Cruces, on the east side of I-25. Maybe a mile or two off the freeway. I got a complete '51 front clip there for $150, as rust-free as they get. The guy had a lot of old stuff, and other than being drunk at 10am, was not bad to deal with. Do you know the place? Absolutely no signs until you got to the place.

Pretty sure that is the place that had a Bonus Built short bus on eBay last year.

I think I might know where it is. Take the Dona Ana exit ( a few miles north of Las Cruces) head east on the dirt road up past the water tank and the road will veer down the hill to the south to the yard.
I've never been there, I didn't realize he had old stuff. I'll be back that way in a couple of weeks. I'll see if I can make time to go see.
Here is a yard I was invited to this last summer. Its outside of Aztec, NM. the guy has tons of stuff, mainly 50's and 60's but there are few earlier vehicles. There was probably 8 or so Bonus Built trucks. I bought a stainless windshield trim for $40. Nice guy and the prices seemed reasonable.

Team Auto Parts is an Import recycler. There are plenty of auto wreckers on the east side of Winnipeg. Here's one I found

Well Chris,
Since I seem to be in an enabling mood with this thread here's a few more. Here are some pics from my buddy's yard in Albuquerque;

I'll swing by and see what kind of great stuff he has now. The owner is a great guy and always
willing to wheel and deal.
