The heater is to keep the water separator functioning in cold. If you are eliminating the separator, you are eliminating the need for the heater.

Yeah, I use the white bottle, but after reading white buffalo's links on gelling, I think I may not have got it in there before the damage was done.
The Walbro pump is not engineered for diesel and is not manufactured at the quality level of the stocker. Okay, good to know. I'll be replacing it and the fuel bowl heater.

A whining pump is a good clue, it could be a pickup issue, a pump issue, or a gelled fuel issue. I installed a fuel pressure pump for days like this, and it was a total eye-opener the very day I installed it. I had to re-design my fuel supply mods.
Thanks for the responses guys. I am not going to be able to look at it today as I seem to have contracted the flu, but I did dump some diesel 911 in the tank last night, and with the temp supposed in the 20's tomorrow, maybe it will run better. After hearing from you guys, I think I probably have a combination of a week pump and gelled fuel. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks.

I agree. I just recently plugged up the screen in my Carter lift pump with the typical black crud you always find in diesel and had the same symptoms, run great for a little ways and then gradually starve out.

The white bottle is Power Service Diesel Fuel Supplement. The grey bottle is Power Service Diesel Kleen.

Can anyone tell me where the best place to get a factory fuel pump is? Or maybe the part number? Thanks.

No thanks. It's okay, I don't always read the whole thread either.

I learned the hard way that the Walbro isn't a good pump for a 7.3.

I bought my new OEM Bosch unit from Bob just a few months ago. They seem to go in and out of stock frequently. Maybe he got tired of dealing with supplier inconsistencies or something...

Well lucky for me I haven't needed a fuel pump YET and hadn't jumped on the Walbro bandwagon yet !! It is funny that a couple years ago guys were saying how great the Walbro was and how they had such good luck with them. And after a quick search here I see more and more guys having issues with them. So the test of time tells all. I think Rich hit it on the head when he said they weren't diesel rated.
