Thats because you dont have a 5 speed in reality, nor will you be obtaining a 6 speed, unless your towing all the time Id say. Unless im towing or creeping up a big hill (like my driveway!) I dont touch 1st.

Its identical to 'Low' gear on the 6 speed that Ford labeled as a 5+Low anyways.

2nd gear and 1st gear is also just about the same between those transmissions. You just gain an extra gear for use in the middle. Which trust me would be great, but I've grown accustom to shifting less at this point, lol.

I believe the 6 speed for these trucks was the ZF6 regardless if it was gas or diesel, its just rare to fins one in a gas engine super duty.

Bell houseing and X/MIS all one piece. No seperating one from the other.

Just as its labeled on the shifter, as a 5 speed with L. However they labeled the 5 speed as a 5 speed, it was just kind of dishonest.

ZF6 Low is equal to ZF5 1st though, least on my 5.4 tranny.

I STAND CORRECTED!The ZF5 and ZF6 1st/low ratios are indeed close:ZF5 1st-5.72,ZF6 low-5.79.

One of the Cummins swap sites should have info on bellhousing bolt patterns. I believe the 5.4 manual is lighter duty than the 6.8/powerstroke. Again I read that on a swap site, cumminsford.com????

The 5.4/6.8 have the same bellhousing bolt pattern. The 7.3/6.0 bolt patter is different and is bigger for a larger diameter clutch.

Hey, I know this is an ancient thread, but I have the same question, about to do my 5.4 ZF6 swap. Did the spacer end up being needed? Or is it just for the 7.3s?
