Modified and Stock

Modified and Stock
First off: I really enjoy all the discussions regarding modifications to these old trucks. Even though I am attempting a stock-ish restoration, I learn a lot from all the posts in the 1948-1956 forum section. But, it occurs to me that there are many questions about strictly stock that probably are of little interest to folks doing major modifications. If the stock discussions could somehow be separated from other posts, then it would be easier to access information about either modified or stock without wading through each others posts. Simply typing in "stock' as keyword in an advanced search does not separate the two discussions. It could well be that I do not know how the use all the forum tools, yet. Is there a way to insert a "keyword" that could direct a forum user toward a particular discussion? Again, I am not suggesting that I want to see this section subdivided. I am just wondering if there is a way that stock and modified could be separated out for the purpose of searching within this section.

I think there's too much "grey area" between stock and mod'd for there to be a clean line from a Search perspective. Is a Stock engine with modern upgrades like 12v, electronic ignition, etc. stock or mod'd? Once you get into the frame / suspension mods the distinction is clearer. IFS, air bags, 4-link, etc. clearly fall to the Dark Side. There are many relatively stock trucks on here with an engine/trans transplant but stock running gear.

To my recall there was a "Read This First" thread a while back where a coding system was attempted to do what is suggested. I looked for it earlier with no luck, so it seems to have not gained much traction. Every so often we see threads with the (S) coding for Stock, or some other code, maybe a (D) for Darkside [or was it (C) for Cookies], in the title following that old concept. Seems unnecessary to me.
What I'd like to see are questions clearly described in thread titles and posts. That would largely solve the above concern. Too, it would help those answering questions know they are hitting the mark. Stu

Agree totally, Stu. "Help please" doesn't do it.
There are Tags you can add at the bottom of each thread, Advanced Search looks at those first when executing a search (AFAIK). On some forums, the most interesting reading is the tags (i.e., the "Julie" thread).
What would help the most is if people would put in their Signatures a brief description of their truck, incl. year, model, major mods. Also their Location in their Profile so it shows in the upper right. It's impossible to remember what everyone has.

There is so much good information buried in this forum that I think that it would be very difficult if not impossible to separate stock from improved stock from "the dark side". Even individual posts could be a mixture. Sometimes all you need is a picture to help you resolve a problem and it could be from any kind of post.
The only thing that is consistent is the value of pictures. Too bad we don't have part recognition software like they have facial recognition software.
