Colorless Cows in the Cab

I have a leather interior, as many of you do. While recently showing off the perks of Torque, I took a picture of my cab in broad daylight. I had strategically avoided this before... using a clever play on light in an effort to conceal the dilapidated state of my steering wheel. Here are the two photos:

Of course with all of us being friends here, that second shot earned me a good ribbing. I looked hard at the wheel and at options on the web - and solutions range from $600 to $20. A nice-looking option was a reconditioned wheel with fresh leather, but it's hard to get the right color. Add-ons reminded me of my first cars as a youth - tacky.

While staring at Stinky's steering wheel, I noticed the leather was originally dyed. "Why not die it?" was the natural next notion. I did a little homework and I think I found a sensible product - Leatherique [LINK].

So... I'm shifting from function to form now, and I welcome input from those who have done cab makeovers. I won't be doing the burlwood thing. I have a Dash Mat waiting for me at UPS, so that's already a Buck$Zooka smoke ring in the mirror.

Same problem we had with the 03 Ex. Came to us dirty and we did the best we could without stripping it down. A Few years later and the inside was completely gutted. Aside from the Pioneer my favorite is the new steering wheel Wrap Jody did here. He's on the phone right now. I'll find out the part number for you if you are interested? The rest of it was removed and was done with a tornado. Yep, that's what Autogeek calls it. You use it with your air compressor.

Rich. I've been told by someone I know that has a detail shop, that leather interiors actually have a pvc coating rather than dyed leather. The exceptions as I recall were some european makers. It comes in most factory colors and I've seen the finished results. It looks very good and is sprayed on after a prep. Maybe you can find someone near you.

As many times as Rich has been under the valve covers...I'd imagine his grubby hands would taint up the leather.

We have a spare for my 05 Ex. Anyone who has a "one of everything spare" knows I am going to be in the garage for a while.

Off in 1 hour then I'll start digging.

I was about ready to install a torque wrench as a steering wheel... I got so practiced at it.

I guess everyone's tastes are different. Personally I can't stand a leather interior. As a result, my factory steering wheel still looks great (but the color is wearing off my cruise buttons).

Diane's wheel looks nice, but I don't care for her 08 console. I need the clip on top of mine and I do like my armrests.

Anyway, when my wife's wheel got to looking bad, she went with something that matched the lariat trim.

I like that!

Where did you get that wheel, Chris?

Tugly go to auto section at Wally World. There are several steering wheel covers to choose from. LOL

Is that a factory original center console??

It's an aftermarket unit. I don't think they make them anymore, but a vendor still has an inventory of them. [LINK]

It latches in the lip of the fold-down seat back, it's very tough, and it's secure - it's not going to let go or break.
