My dash computer is normally within a couple of tenth's MPG accuracy. Plus OR minus. Before I purchased my 2012 I checked every tank with a calculator for years....decades. After checking a dozen or so tanks in the Ford and finding that I was as close as I was my calculator rests comfortably in the bottom of my console.
My truck is a 2012 Super Crew 2wd with the 6.5" foot bed. 5.0 V-8 with the 3.55 limited slip. My #2 trip meter has never been reset in the 26,500 miles I've driven the truck since I got it last December, right after Christmas. Currently the avg fuel economy over that time is 18.9. Run 70-75 mph and the truck will return more than 20mpg on the cheapest gas you pump into it. Hauling 1000lbs. Running the
Yep DW, dash computer thingamajig is the way to go. I read some research on calculator vs dash thingamajig, and it shows dash to be accurate. It accounts for variables that hand calculating can't.
Just ordered a F150 w the 5lt.and Hd payload Pkg.Put a sm. pop camper in it. Looking at this thread, I am encouraged as i am trading in my 06 SD w 5.4lt. mileage not good 9 to 14 mpg depending on load and wind direction. Any advise on the 5 lt? Thanks ken
I have a 2012 5.0 HD and 8" box. It seems to get 15-16 mpg no matter what I do with it, cruising empty or towing a sable wagon a couple hundred miles on a tow dolly the mileage doesn't seem to change. If you get one as good as mine you should be happy!

Ye mileage is good!
....and at 31,500 miles it still reads 18.9mpg avg for those miles.
I just finished a trip up to Chicago and back and averaged 21.4mpg for the run. One thing I like about the mileage is the range per tank that allows. I filled up in Pleasant Grove Alabama where I live and spent the night just north of Indianapolis. Filled up there and drove to the Navy Pier area of Chicago for a trade show over the weekend. Then I started back south and filled up just north of the Kentucky/Indiana state line. That tank carried me all the way back home and back and forth to work the rest of the week.
Mine gets approx 13.2 with no load and my commute is 10 miles each way with more time sitting at red lights than actually driving.
I also know that the other mileage problem is in the drivers seat - but I am not really disappointed with the mileage.
my latest tank (over 400 miles) was 18.2. I would say 50/50 with a lot of running the kids to soccer and play rehearsal last week. Just broke 5000 miles yesterday..
or haul mulch.. or a 2 x 4.. or the topsoil for the garden.. or the flagstone.. Or take a family of 4 with 4 bikes camping for the weekend.. etc..
I love a good fuel economy car and we have one, but in my opinion, if you own a home, you also need a truck. I figure the savings on delivery of the yard materials I need yearly about make up for the difference in fuel economy.
Yeah I miss the truck. But certainly not at the gas pump.
That's it??? I thought you would be pushing 58 by now! Learn that coasting!!!
As to the thread...me posting that ai get 20-21 mpg with 3.73 gearing isn't going to matter for anyone else because you are not driving the same stretch of road I am (with the same conditions etc. )
