Springs Springs Springs

I am pretty new here, and I want to grasp the spring thing better.

My first question is what year SD truck can be a donor. I found some rears from a 2008, but I am not sure if I can use the 05+ SD parts.

I do not want a big lift. I just want to know I am more than an inch off the bump stop on the fronts, and would prefer a level stance. I don't have a lot of room for garage clearance, and I don't want bigger tires anytime soon.

I have read a bunch of spring threads, but I still would appreciate some direct advice.

Thanks

Front springs
- from 99-04 F250/F350- V-codes springs

Rear springs
- from 99-04 F250/F350 - B-code springs
- from 05-07 F250/F350 - F-code springs

Some want a higher capacity so you can also use the following:

Front springs -
- from 99-04 superduties - x-codes springs
- from 99-04 superduties - w-codes springs

Rear springs -
- from 99-04 F350/F450 - C-code springs

I would do searches on the V/B code mod or the F-code mod

An 08 spring will not work for our excursion because it is too long. You will have to relocate the mounting points in order to use it.

You don't have the info listed in your post, and you don't have your sig filed out yet, so I gotta ask, is your Ex a 4-wheel drive or 2-wheel drive?

08 springs offer improved ride due to their increased length. They are significantly longer. But because of that....

I figured there wasnt enough spring discussion in the Excursion forum, so I wanted to stir the pot a bit.

Did he like it? Was it a smoother ride?

hasn't been around in a while. Seems like a cool swap...but useless IMO because any ride quality you may gain with the 08+ leafs would be negated by having to install an AAL to offset the much lower ride height

Thanks for that link! Opens up lots of possibilities for lower mileage take-off springs. The cost of those things is crazy!

I know a shop that has done it locally. He says the ride is a LOT better.

I do have a 4wd.

Finding springs in Northern Wisconsin is not easy to do, though I have not been looking for an extended period of time.

I've been searching around for springs for quite some time now. I live near Denver and there are a number of parts places that regularly part out super duty trucks.

My issue with used springs from these guys is their price. By the time you pickup their V/Bs (or whatever) and then start looking at shocks and other parts you might need, the price comes in pretty close to either new Ford springs from someone like Tousley or just buying an aftermarket lift kit.

The real savings opportunity seems to be in sourcing your springs from a junkyard and taking them off yourself. There's a pick your part type place near me that has super duty trucks every now and then and they only want $25 per spring. So some tools and a bit of my blood and sweat and I'll end up with $100 set of springs some time.

BTW, if you are sourcing used springs, the only way to identify them correctly is to read the door pillar sticker from the truck they came off. There is no way to identify the springs from any numbers stamped or painted on them. This makes buying used springs even more interesting and mysterious if you don't have the original door pillar sticker.
