91 Aerostar A/C problems

Problem-A/C leaking coolant. Replaced heat core 2 weeks ago and was warned to keep eye on coolant system. Mechanic said hose looked blocked but didn't clean. Van overheated afterward and added coolant. Week later it overheated again. Added coolant. Heard water swishing sound in cab 1 day before it overheated this time. Any suggestions?

91 Aerostar A/C problems

I had similar problem with my 1993 Aerostar. Ended up to be a leak in the small hole at the bottom of the water pump. As a temp measure, I added a sealant to the cooling system. Leak stopped. This was in April 2003. Also, leak was not visible unless the van was up on a lift in the garage. You might also check the radiator cap. If the seal is bad, you won't have enough pressure in your cooling system. Suggest replacing with a cap that has a pressure relief falve on the top.

Remember what I said before, it may be only a temporary fix. You should have your entire cooling system checked for leaks. Most garages have a pressure tester. It pumps up the system with enough pressure that leaks should be visible. If you do use the sealer (Bar's Leak) is a good one to get, make sure you drive your car for at least 30 minutes after putting it in the radiator. Engine should be on when the sealer is put in. Good Luck
