302 ignition problems

My 302 has no fire. I have redon the whole ignition all the way down to the switch. A freind told me to replaced the magnetic pickup again. I did and it ran for a few minutes, cutting off every few seconds. It was backfiring a lot in the process. It backfired one time and the motor started turning in the opposite direction. Does anybody have any Ideas of what could be wrong?

Plug wires on wrong. Check your firing order. There are two available.

Later 302s use the same order as the 351W.

And do you have the distributor in correctly and lined up with TDC etc?

The wires are on the same as they were when it ran right. My distributor hasn't moved. I'm not getting any fire at all now.

Backfire = spark at the wrong time. Recheck the wires. Then go upstream till you find electricity. Go back downstream till you find the poor connection.

There is no magic here, just tracing the path and checking, and double checking connections, etc.

Couldnt the magnetic pickup send a bad signal to the module and cause it to fire at the wrong time?
