1951 F1

Just bought this 1951 F1. It is an unfinished frame off restoration. The PO died leaving it to his kids. 85 year old PO had lots of experience rebuilding old cars and trucks.

So far I know it needs the wiring completed, the brakes bled, emergency brake cable hooked up, spark plug wires hooked up. The 8BA flathead appears to be a fresh rebuild never run. That's a guess based on condition and new oil, and the truck didn't have an engine when it was bought. It mostly appears box stock with the exception of stainless steel exhaust, 12 volt conversion, and a few other odds and ends. Sheet metal looks sound and rust free. It's 3 on the floor and my neighbor just offered me a period correct 4 speed.

Just crawled under it and discovered front disk brakes. Also need a disrtributor hold down. The survey is going to be interesting.

Welcome Old Tools, good to see another Texan on the forum. Very nice looking truck. Sounds like you have just a few things to finish and you will have it ready for the road. I would think hard before I went for the 4 speed crash box. Not a very user friendly transmission.

I hear you. I would really like a T5 if I'm going to drive it much.

Welcome MOT!

Good looking truck. Every project truck has a collection of stuff that only the fella doing the resto knows about. You are spot on to treat the discovery process as a survey - and assume nothing about anything regardless of the capabilities of the PO.

Enjoy the ride!

Welcome. I love the color, the flat head and idea of putting a 5 speed behind it.
