"Special Order" F250 4x4 for sale, LOL!
Ive owned 6 Ford F-series from 1969 to 1977, but ive always admired the style of the early to mid 60's models........SOOOOOO, when an ad showed up on my local Craigslist, i had to call, then look at it........Advertised as a 66 "Special Order longbed 4x4. Power steering and brakes, locking hubs FRONT AND REAR( yeah that musta been a real "Special", a later model 390 w/Edelbrock intake........etc, etc. Talked to the owners sister, decided to go and look at the truck.
Well, it did have Power Assist steering, and dual circuit master cylinder power brakes.........It was a 4x4, F100 with a 4 spd, an FE engine with an Edelbrock intake, single speed Dana 21 T-case. I was disappointed by the lack of rear locking hubs, i was really looking forward to those, but it did appear to have a Dana 60 rear axle, a 5 lug semi floater. Decent interior, pretty nice body.....
What was funny was the ad made a big deal out of how easily the doors closed and latched, and it was correct! For a nearly 50 year old truck, the doors closed like a brand new truck...........Too bad it was only an F100 with the in/out T-case, and not an F250...........at $1200 obo, it was a good deal, but not exactly what i was hoping for

Dual master cylinder first available in 1967, P/S was not available with 4WD until 1973 and then it was Garrison Power Assist P/S thru 1975.
Dana 60: 8 lug, 6.50" bolt circle = F250 only / Dana 60.2: 5 lug 5.50" bolt circle = F100 only.

I didnt buy it, although it wasnt a bad truck for the money.....Somebody in its past spent some time doing the steering and brake conversions, it appeared as if it was a factory job, well crafted! somebody also took some diamond plate aluminum and made some trim pieces that covered the lower bed sides, behind the wheel wells......the grille needed replacing, the front edge of the hood was rusted through, and pass. side front fender was a little rough. Who knows, if the seller still has it in a few more days, i might consider getting it, assuming it drove okay......
