81 fog lamps

Ok so on my 81 f150 custom, there are 2 Fox brand fog lamps in an aluminum housing mounted under the front bumper. In the past I have been told to use the internet for questions but frankly I don't trust the web or the info on it so here I go. The original owner claims they are original. I have never seen another bullnose with them but the covers were dry rotted to hell so I knew they were at least old. The truck has the factory fog lamp switch inside and the mounts for the lights don't look like after market. Since the covers were so old they fell apart and I'm looking for replacement covers but I have no luck. Anyone know where to find them. They were white with a black fox on them. Ill try to post a picture of the lights. And secondly, are they original? Even if not original they still look good and ill keep them

From your description, yours indeed sound like the original factory fog lights! Do you have a Ford underhood storage box too? Those are the two rarest options on the 1980 - 1986 F-Series and Broncos.

Factory fog lights are a VERY rare option on Bullnose trucks. They were mostly seen on 1980 - 1984 Broncos but a few F150s had them too. The ones from the factory had a FOG LAMP switch integrated in the dash cluster bezel on the left side of the steering column and to the right of the windshield wiper ****.

Factory fog lights were mounted under the bumper on 4wd trucks, and above the bumper on the 2wd trucks. They would have a chrome bezel that completely surrounded each fog light. The 1980 -1984 fog lights were made by Marchal and the "fox" logo you are referring to are on the fog lights themselves and the headlight covers, which were white with a black fox head.

The only place I have seen correct fog light covers are on Ebay. They go for BIG MONEY, because the 1979 - 1986 Mustangs used the same covers, and their owners pay a high premium for them. I just checked on Ebay for "Marchal Headlights" and I found a NOS (New Old Stock) for $225!

1985 - 1986 models used a completely different style of very generic, aftermarket-looking fog lamps, and the FOG LAMP switch was an add-on item.

NumberDummy, I am running into a problem looking up a part number. The CD catalog lists the part as a *, which means it must be "improvised." I can only get a partial part number: E6TZ-1513000-?

Will you check your older microfiche for the part number:
1986 Soft Trim Section F,
cab carpet for a 1986 F150,
Regular cab -- 2wd with A/T (gas engine),
color: D (red).

I got a line on what I think I need, I just need to verify the part number. Thanks!

Yes Lariat 85. Your description matches perfectly. I have a 4x4 and they are just as you explained. I just don't have the storage box. I didn't realize these were the exact same as the mustang lights but that is still a hefty sum for some plastic. When I bought the truck from the original owner, I wanted to check that all the electronics worked and to check the fog lamps I had to take the covers off. They crumbled the second they came off the housing so I figured that they were on there for many a years. I've been trying to find them but now I have the manufacturers name instead of the brand line name. Thanks for the information guys. One other thing. My under hood lamp came from factory in a box that allowed the light to be pulled out to be hung around the truck for maintenance. The guy I bought the truck from said that one night he pulled it out and it wouldn't retract, so he clipped the light, added some alligator clips and put it in a bag for storage under the seat. I never got them but I can't find any factory replacements. In most catalogs, they show the assembly in the parts diagram picture for under the hood but they don't have the part numbers for them. I don't trust junk or pick n pull yards because you never know how long it might last or if you will find it. If you know what light I'm talking about, do you know where to find a factory or NOS replacement?

Search on eBay for Ford under hood lights. See the attached link, as an example. I have seen quite a few listed for ~$30-50, so be patient.

AMC or Chrysler (whoever made the Jeep Grand Cherokee at the time) also used them during this same time frame... the lights themselves were manufactured by ITT and so the Jeep's variants won't have the Ford oval and engineering number on it, that's the only difference. Look in the junk yard....
