I have the same thing on the front tank now. i'm pretty sure mine's the float. not sure if you can buy just a float, but some of the units are brass, so you could solder the hole closed if you can find it. the biggest pain is getting the sender out.
i'm pretty sure you have to drop the tank or remove the bed. i'm just living with my dead float for now until I change my bed - hopefully in the spring. ...the bad float has only caused me to run out of fuel once so far ;-)

it looks right.
the link to this on that same page is timely for me as well:
i'm pretty sure that little vacuum valve on my front tank pickup tube is leaking as well. when I get down to what I believe to be ~1/4 tank (I don't know exactly because the guage is busted :-) ) the engine starts to lose power at higher RPMs. i'm figuring this valve is leaking, leading to aeration in the fuel. the problem doesn't happen when I switch to the rear tank or run the front one above 1/4 full. $30 aint bad for a new one of these. I think i'll do them both when I finally yank that sender.

You do NOT have to drop the tank to get the front sending unit out. It's a pain, and it takes a lot of finagling back and forth, but you can get it out without touching the mounting straps on the tank.
You have a broken "shower head" (which is the part you linked). You can replace it with that stock unit, or put a 3"-4" piece of fuel line on the steel line with a "V" notched into the bottom of the fuel line to remedy that.
I think i'll still just wait till the bed's off so as to not risk damaging the unit what with all the required finagling...
