How to tow 74 F250 crew?

I have a 74 F250 crew short 2wd & have a guy wanting to trade. How would be the best way to transport this truck? I already tried U haul & Penske & said nothing big enough to handle the truck. I need to transport it bout 125 miles give or take 1 way that is meeting the guy half way & I pick up the car. Any ideas on getting the truck there?

Why can't you use a tow dolly? Uhaul doesn't recommend them but I think that's because they are mainly for front wheel drives. No reason that I can think of other than weight that you couldn't use it on a rear wheel drive truck. Just have to disconnect the driveline if its an automatic.

I use equipment rental trailers for PU's. The Sunbelt Rental place near me has tilt bed tandem equipment trailers rated 10k lb. They work great for PU's. You need a good horse for the tow vehicle - a well set up 1/2 ton/SUV or 3/4 ton truck. The trailers run about 2400# empty, use surge brakes and a 2 5/16" ball.

ok yea I never drove the truck but in the driveway an its not legal & I was going to see if a F150 form U haul might work for the tow vehicle. An I got a guy wanting my 74 f250 crew to trade for his 82 Porsche 924 coupe 2.0 4 cylinder 5 speed manual even trade. An bout 125 miles or so is midway for both of us so just need to see how ot get the truck up there to him.

Ima call BS on uhaul. I rented a trailer for my 59 f100 std cab long bed and U haul gave me a flat bed car hauler. When I went to pick it up I assumed it was the biggest trailer there but no they gave me the third biggest. So there were two sizes bigger then what they gave me. So someone ain't right there.

they checked the computer an the 74 F250 crew out weighs there limit for tow dolley an auto transport plus it is to wide for the auto transport. I have a 64 t bird an the tires were almost hanging over sides of the auto transport the 74 F250 is wider than it is.

AAA won't tow it, if it isn't road legal. Family member tried that on a ratrod they wanted to store here. But maybe you can fool em.

Call a local trailer sales place. Sometimes they will lease a trailer for a day or two. I know they do near me. $60/ day unlimited miles.

Just get a roll back wrecker and ride with, most have a empty versus loaded fee. Try to trick a rental company and you can maybe be held legally responsibly for any damage or repairs and or buy them a new trailer $$$$.

If you try it and get in an accident (it happens when some jerk hits you) and the police report states what vehicles are involved and then they find out.....

Or just rent a truck that can tow it and a trailer that can haul it, done.

I still say that's bs cuz they have a trailer that will fit my highboy and the guy even told me when I cslled my u haul today they had a trailer that will do it for your truck (auto transport) idk weird.... maybe they just don't have the big enough one in ur area. That could be it... where do you live? Maybe I know someone near by that can do it

I live in Charleston WV & there is no trailer place close that has anything to handle the truck tried them & with a rollback going just 125 miles or so is bout $350-$450. Then you still got to pick the other car up an bring it back. Just want to figure a way to get this up there an get this truck gone its just taking up space an wont be used for anything. The car I could use it to go back an forth to school with an save some money on gas. If I kept the truck it will sit for at least a year or 2 to get everything done to it & then your bout 8K in it & will lose your tail when you try to sell it.

See if the guy with the car can travel all the way to you? But I am sure that will mean a price adjustment on someone part and probably yours.

What no good friends with a truck and 20 ft trailer and a few spare hours?

This is your sign that you are making a really bad trade and you should back out asap.Towing problem solved..A 1982 porsche 924 is an absolute nightmare of a money pit.If the crew is too much of a project for you, sell it.Lots of guys want them.An old porsche has bad news written all over it.

Been trying to get F250 gone for a while just lost interest in it an want it gone. The Porsche would be a good car to use back an forth to school an work I currently drive my mom's F150 4wd an it loves the gas. Just want the truck gone an people think it is to much work to get on road in its current condition & its nothing major left to do to it I just dont want to spend any more on it & just done with it. I got a guy that has a tow bar an might be able to borrow a Chevy or Dodge to tow this truck my mom's 01 F150 could not handle it it cant tow nothing near 5,000lbs with out using oil while towing with it.
