96 F350 FRONT LEAF COMPATABILITY

Hey all,

I have another question I wanted to verify before I take off and go pick up a set from the junk yard before the weather shats on us. I just wanted to check and see what the compatability was for f350 front springs on our trucks. If I remember correctly all 80-96 350s are compatible. I did a SAS a while back in the 250 and finally have a bit of time to change out the front springs to 350 springs since the diesel is off the plate and in the paint bay.

Also, I'm almost positive it is not possible to throw V code SD springs in without SKY's shackle reversal. I just wanted to check though. No need for lift just trying to soften up the front and get rid of the old TTB springs while I finally have a bit of down time.

Thanks for your words!

Brad I know you know the answer!

Also I assume the front leaf thickness differs from 1.45" vs the 2.03" leafs. This is due to gas or diesel? I'd guess the thinner ones are for the gas motors and thicker for diesel. I also noticed all 1.45" leafs were under 250 headings, which made me think they were for the TTB axles.

Anyways there is only one set of 2.03" leafs left in the 6 yards I called but its from a 90 350 which should be fine.

My understanding is that the SD springs are longer than the OBS springs. The RSK kit (the front fixed pivot and the rear shackle) accomodate this longer length.

Short answer: No, SD springs cannot be simply swapped into an OBS.

Cool how about 80-97 OBS F350 spring being interchangeable. That is my main question. And the difference between 1.45" and 2.03" thick leaf packs? I just assume look for a 80-96 leaf pack out of a 350 that is 2.03" thick.

You'll need one of the more knowledgeable guys here to answer that. But this will keep it to the top so they can see it. Good luck!

Much appreciated. Everybody and their sister has F250 springs here in CO. I can only find one last set of 350 springs around these parts, just need to make sure I get the right ones.

Precision metal fab has a kick *** RSK that accomodates SD springs. If like me youre trying to avoid lifting it anymore than possible, their kits range from 2.25" to 4.5 i believe.

85.5-97 F350s had 2 different springs
1-small block
2-Big block/diesel

80-85.5 F350s had the TTB just like the F250s so they are no good to you

And NO, you cannot use SD springs without a RSK

Honestly, I would be looking at NEW springs, not 16 year old springs

They only list one spring for the 85.5-97(probably big block/diesel) But the aftermarket is good like that
43-516 Leaf Spring Assembly

Thanks Brad! That what I was wondering. I would assume the 1.45" packs would be for the small block 350s and the 2.03" packs would be for the 7.5/7.3.

I completely agree with you on spring packs, however I am pretty short on funds at the moment with painting the other truck, replacing trim, doors, seals and what not, that the a junk yard set of 350 packs for 60$ is not a bad idea at the moment. My packs on my 350 are 17 years old and the truck rides like a Cadillac with an add a leaf and 550lb bumper. The 250's bumper is about 200lbs lighter.

They have a fairly good price on those springs, but I might try to find a local place here in Denver that will make them due to shipping cost being pretty steep from out of state.

Thanks for the help Brad!

Not looking to drop coin on an entire lift kit.... maybe in the future, but for now I'd like to stick with a stock ride height. Sky's also has a V code SD spring RSK for the OBS fords. 92-97 Ford OBS Super Duty Leaf Conversion Shackle - Sky's Off-road Design

This will be the wife's truck after a 12valve cummins goes in, she barely can get in it now at 5'1" and 107lbs... add 4 more inches and it may be comical watching her attempt the front seat jump.

IF you decide to go w a RSK. I would HIGHLY recommend the PMF over the SLY one. Sky did NOT engineer theirs right and they have you changing unnecessary parts.

The PMF one BOLTs right in. Not drilling, cutting, etc(the Sky one has you doing both)

O and the PMF is also cheaper
