Thanks for this thread. I agree, this is never off topic.
I'd like to give a shout-out to my dad, PFC Bradley Green (1919-1994) who landed on Omaha Beach on D-day, at approximately H-hour + 120. (8:00 am)
He taught me everything worth knowing. Hiking, camping, wrench turning, construction, and to treat everyone else with respect.
And a big thanks to everyone that has served, is serving, and will serve. We can't do it without you.

especially on this day this is and always should be the topic. I didn't know this until recently because he didn't talk much about this part of his life but my uncle drove onto Omaha beach on D day, driving a tanker truck. There was still plenty of action and bullets were flying everywhere and I'm not sure if he knew the difference but Sherman tanks and other US Army vehicles did not run on diesel so he was hauling gasoline. He continued to haul gasoline for Patton Army 'til the end - the Redball Express.

You know there is only one thing wrong with the Vet Holiday. My dad who served during the Korea era was always upset on this holiday.
He worked at the rubber shop and the office workers had the day off but the "workers" had to work. I always felt bad for my dad as he served and deserved the day off!
I think everyone who served should be entitled to the day off with pay no matter what job they have. That would help show some thanks and respect I think.
I did not serve but am glad for all who did.
