AFE exhaust kit

AFE exhaust kit
Well I will say this much... I hope I NEVER have to do another exhaust kit ever again.
Got an AFE straight pipe exhaust kit in the mail this week. Removed the v-ban on the turbo turbine and the bolts connecting the down pipe to the pipes... Dropped the exhaust, tried to remove my town pipe... Couldn't get it out... Ended up cutting the flange off to get clearance and after some beating and manhandling I finally got it off. Then tried to install my 3 inch down pipe...
God... Talking about issues, couldn't get the downpipe inside the hole... After an hour of beating I got the pos in and clamped up. Then I start hanging and hitting the exhaust... None of the pre fab hangers are lining up. Managed to get 1 installed (one over the axle, dual hook hanger. Started clamping stuff up, some of the clamps are not tightening up to make a proper seal, ended up adding some shims between the clamps and the pipe, tightened up decently. Whole tail pipe is being held up with bailing wire... did a run up... Everything south of the trans is leaking slightly...
Little red RTV will fix that... Overall it was a decent kit, didn't work well with my hitch system of factory offroad kit put i got it in, sounds great. spools up even better, but to make it clear... Avoid AFE lol.

My experience with MBPR is not much, if any better. Go with a Flo-Pro or Diamond Eye in stainless and it will fit better and be cheaper than MBPR aluminized

Don't feel bad. I just SCRAPPED my 6 month old MBRP POS exhaust(yes, went to scrap yard) and put on a flo-pro one

Tips really do not change the sound enough to notice. Only thing that deepens the tone is a bigger diameter exhaust. My truck had an 8 inch tip on it when i got it and it barely changed the sound at all. Put a buddy's 5 inch tip on and it didn't change the sound at all from just having no tip.
