351w cranks fit 351c?

If a fella had the mains on a 351w turned down to 351c sizes, would the crank fit? I suppose there are differences in the front 'snout' but that can usually be worked around.

Reason I ask is that stroker 351w cranks are cheap but stroker 351c cranks are not. Seems like an easy way to make a cheaper stroker 351c.

There is no difference in pricing of the 351-W and 351-C cranks that I've seen. With the availability of the SVO blocks in both Windsor and Cleveland main sizes, companies like Scat are offering both types at the same low price in all popular stroker sizes.

By the time you factor in the machining costs to turn down and repolish/reheat treat the mains, you'll be way over the price of an "as delivered" part from Scat.

Take Care.

Rob!

...anybody know why this forum CHANGES 351-W (without the dash!) to 351w? And...400-M is required so that you don't end up with 400m? If I meant 400m, I would have TYPED it...!

Scat doesn't make any stroker cranks for the 351C but they do make one for a 351W with 351C main journal diameter. This kit uses Chevy rod journals so they can use a cheap 6.00" Chevy size rod and custom pistons. You can get a timing gear spacer from Ford. The snout is also .75" shorter so you may have to add a spacer to the H balancer too.

Rob,

You could solve the "400-M" problem by just calling it a 400, like Ford did.
