Ford 385 Series vs. 472/500 Caddy
Barring cost and numbers produced, which do you all think is better?
I've never been in a 385 series, but I know the bottom end on the Caddy is HUGE.
3.25" main journals and 2.5" rod journals. How does a 460 compare?
I have also read that the Caddy blocks had a very high nickel content. My brother and I tore into a stock 472 with 102,000 miles. You could still faintly see the crosshatches.
And to top that, the fastest gas-powered land vehicle is powered by bored out 472.

I think that all depends, are you looking to GO FAST or do you need a good all around workhorse that's fun to romp on it?
If you're looking to go fast for little $$$ the 500 will be your best bet, the 460 CAN and WILL go fast but it'll take more $$$ then the 500,
NOW if you want a indestructible tank of a truck engine? The 460 is the way to go. Then again I'm biased because I have one in my 76 F-150.
