Was anybody else at the bookstore last night at midnight? There were tons of kids in costume and it was a really neat atmosphere. I know some groups of people have objections to the Harry Potter series, but I have read the first four book and I think they are wonderful! I don't see how anybody can have a problem with any book that millions of kids are that anxious to read

Although I like to see children excited about reading, I am really tired of adults dressing up like the kid in the book and acting like him all the time. They need to grow up. The other day I saw some old lady walking around with a broom acting like it was her vehicle kind of like that geico commercial with the lady that uses the air horn and such while walking down the street.

I think we should stop filling these children's minds with make believe characters. These kids go home and start practicing Black Magic and all of this non sense. Kids need all year long schooling and all non fiction books. Harry Potter.... These kids need a real role model, like Bill Clinton, O.J. Simpson, Jim Morrison.

But,
I think a child needs to have some dreams and live in some fantasy every so often so that brain of theirs becomes more active, as opposed to just being a repetious machine.
What a dull child that would be had they not lived a fantasy or dreamed a dream.
I feel it is better to have the creative juices in children flowing as early & as late as possible.
I fully believe in living life to the fullest & doing things in moderation is the key to a happy life.
Then when that child's brain becomes an adult brain, that person can be quite capable in many situations they confront.
This Harry Potter stuff is no worse than when I was child playing Cowboys & Indians or Cops & Robbers.
Hopefully you don't think my mind is warped too much?
Let the children Dream & Fantasize, I say

I'm with ya, Mil1ion, kids grow up too fast as it is. Let them have their fantasy. My only problem is with all the media hype with Harry Potter. Katie Couric had an "exclusive" interview with J. K. Rowlings (sp?) last night, and I just don't get it. The woman's already worht half a BILLION dollars (and good for her, she worked hard for it), she doesn't need any free publicity from NBC to help her make more. I just have a problem when the media tries to pass off hype and free advertising as "news." It's NOT news

its a hoot!
This woman is a billionaire, just by writing books. And these kids and adults will line up for hours and hours to pay $46. Thats right. $46 With the money she has made on the first bunch, she should be selling em for like 5 bucks!!! Lol. Gotta make money, but that is ridiculous!

Yea, you had me going for a second too, effie. It has been proven that children who are avid readers (some of the research specific to fantasy and sci-fi) grow up to have on average significantly higher I.Q.s and broader imaginations. Its good to be a brainy geek, especially if you drive a Ford
