I'm looking to put some new tires on my '57. The po had 235/75/15 on the rear and 225/75/15 on the front. I want to know what everyone else is running. It's stock height right now but i plan on a 2.5" drop in the front and 5" in the rear.

 

Are you running the original 15" X 5" innie tab steel wheels?

That is what I am running for wheels and I have the following tires:

Grand Am Radial GT P215/70/R15

I checked my speedometer against a GPS and it was 1-2 mph faster than the GPS with those tires.

I have 15 x 6 wheels (Hollander 1570) with 225/75/15, can see pics in my gallery. I am happy with the way they look as my truck is stock height as well. I am going to drop mine as well. I highly recommend you contact Sids for drop axle and springs. Excellent customer service and prices.

 

I saw the drop axel from Sids but was considering a multi leaf spring drop kit from performance online. They have up to 2.5" drop for front and up to 5" for back. I have read that the mono leafs aren't recommended but I think the multi leaf should work fine. Have any experience with those?

I agree! Yesterday I did a 2" drop in the rear of my toyota.....

 

Come on Gary that looks like at least a three inch drop in the rear and you raised the front an inch. LOL

PS I like the way you added an extra sticker in rear to keep the stack level!

 

I personally don't have any experience with the multi leaf and have heard bad things with mono leaf as well. Sid's recommended drop axle in front and flipping the front rear spring hangers half a turn and move it to top of frame, drill new holes and bolt back on, send him the main leaf out of rear pack and he can reverse eye on it-uses all original springs. I can forward the email to you with pictures of flip and how truck would sit if you would like.

Yes, Spur, some very rare sunshine.. and about those 7.00 15 bias ply tires, that's what I bought from Joe Guard's gas station in Mattapoisett Mass, back in 1971 for my first truck. A '65 f100 for 375.00. ( the truck, not the tires)Picture it was 6 years old and I got it for 375.00..... How things have changed. ... And who needs power steering with 700x15's anyhow?????

 

I originally went with 235 75 LT rated allseasons, but now I'm running All Terrain tread. They'll get my panel truck through bumper-deep snow. Rims are 15x7 slot mags of unknown brand that I got for $75 from the classifieds.

If you don't have power steering, narrower front tires should make for easier turning in tight spaces, and less wear on the steering box.
