Rebuilt 4R100 questions
I know it off topic but this one had alot people with knowledge over 4R100
Summary story. 2003 E350 passenger with 5.4L need transmission so I got out 04 E350 cargo with 157K. History it sat for 7 years with 142K.
Transmission work fine but I know it not cause fluid is burnt yellow and trans pump seal leak fluid. And I knew history of van it used to carry 4K pound of stuff plus tow dump trailer.
My question what I should replace parts inside 4R100? Plan is rebuilt and put in van it will see some heavy tow behind 5.4L.
New clutch/steel plate
stock torque converter
seals
gaskets
??? Anything???

I can be really good but my biggest problem is FOCUS on it. My plan is GET FINISH in 1-2 weeks not 1 year
After tear down it obvious it been abused. The sun shell where direct clutch drum were started to show wear on teeth.
Reverse clutch disc wipe out there no mark
Inter Clutch disc's teeth where it go on coast clutch cylinder were half way to stripped. Of course my boss had leadfoot that he would floor then lift off pedal often.
Fluid were really YELLOW with some brown tint. I wonder if previous owner dump LUCAS inside?

I'd spring for the hardened one. https://www.wittrans.com/SchematicPa...0&LinkCode=622 I rebushed the sun gear and replaced the snap ring and thrust washer.

Price were pretty cheapest from what I see on there.
Do you think I should replace whole washers/torrington bearings? They were look fine to me.

I would. They aren't a whole lot of money and any grit from clutch wear can find its way inside the Torrington bearings. A slight wear on the thrust washers, here and there, can add up and increase the clearances of the stacked assemblies. I'd also replace the bushings. I fabbed my own of my own tools for reassembly.
I just talked to Mark K
He said you don't need to replace torrington bearings IF there no damage on it. I going clean them really good.
I looked at plastic thrust washing I think I going to replace them.
Is Mineral oil good for clean torrington bearing? My plan were soak in 2 cups then dry out and soak in other cup with Mercon fluid.

I have flushed them out with mineral spirits followed by brake cleaner. Blew them out and then soaked them in my 5 gallon pail, with a couple of inches of my favorite ATF, that I also place my frictions in.
IMHO, the thrust washer and snap ring should be replaced when replacing the sun shell. There is not a lot of surface area, at the round snap ring and sun gear, and the splines tend to "dig in" there.
The kit, you referenced, does not include molded pistons. Are you planning on replacing them, as well?

Thank I will check and kit said "Ford Updated Intermediate Servo piston" include in kit

You must think of other transmission. This one I only see 1 piston that for Intermediate Band Servo Piston.
But I know other transmission like 5R55E had 2 or 3 pistons but this 4R100 I only see 1 piston by valve body and it only had 1 Intermediate band.
Is OD and Caost clutch molded pistons look like Intermediate piston?
