May need ignition switch in 2003 Expy

Sometimes when the key is turned to the Start position nothing happens. I noticed if I push forward or pull backward on the key when it happens, the truck will start. Anyone agree/disagree that it's time for a new ignition switch? And if so, anyone have some instructions or tips on replacing the switch?

Might be the switch, cylinder, linkage, shift lever, DTR sensor, starter relay, starter motor, electrical connections, etc.

You might want to do some actual troubleshooting instead of just hanging parts on the truck and seeing if you guessed right or wrong.

If you move the column tilt up or down all the way and try the key, does it work better or worse?

I'm not just throwing parts at it, that's why I'm asking for opinions. It's the wife's truck, so it happens to her far more than me. She swears when it happens, it only happens in the morning. I know it's happened to me in the middle of the day, but it may have been the first start for the day, can't remember. I do remember it seemed turning the key differently made it start.

Now for the first found of trouble shooting results...I started it multiple times, applying pressure multiple ways with the steering wheel in multiple positions and could not replicate, started perfect everytime. My wife says wait till morning when we take the kids to school (I have tomorrow off). Fortunately right now it's just a random nuisance and not a major problem.

Random or intermittent problems will usually drive everyone crazy. It takes patience, persistence, and a plan to work through them.

When all of that fails, a very large sledgehammer works wonders.

Quick update...of course it didn't happen the next day when I was off and took the kids to school. It has happened at least 2 times in the last 3 weeks though. I plan on crawling under it this weekend and checking electrical connections for corrosion...the fun begins.
